Negur Bunget

a) The opinions expressed by others in this thread are utter shit.
b) It doesn't take an extensive investigation of Negura Bunget to know that they're derivative pap designed to appeal to the trendy johnny-come-lately set.
c) I actually have enough grounding and experience with the genre to be aware of just how unoriginal and uninteresting this band (and Drudkh and the rest of the Slavonic Burzum or Emperor + folk instruments = novelty crowd) really is.
d) I bought their debut back in 1997, and I've seen no reason to change my opinion of this thoroughly overrated crapfest of a band.

Yeah you are entitled to your opinion, as utterly based in conjecture as it obviously is. By the way once again mine is not the issue, suffice to say I know enough about this band to know you are full of it.

What exactly are they derivitive of? How about you give a synopsis on what makes you think there is any comparison with these guys and Emperor, or Burzum for that matter. Completely different songform, counterpoint and even ethnic influences. Honestly, I wouldn't even bother lumping them into the catergory of black metal anyway. When you consider that the term 'black metal' covers bands as different as Khold, Gehenna, Thorns, Emperor, Borknagar, Immortal, Burzum, Dimmu Borgir, Lux Occulta, Gorgoroth, Mayhem, Marduk and Satyricon and consider how different all of those are, it really makes your claim that Negura Bunget are 'derivitive pap', mute. So derivitive of who? Which of those are they being derivitive of and how? By the way don't take that as a list of bands I like, I am merely pointing out that 'black metal' is nothing more than a vague generic term.

Haha I just noticed he called Romania "slavonic". Obviously not very well read on ethnic etymology. Considering that Romanian is commonly thought of as the least corrupted of the latin languages. Obviously though this is a case of someone that thinks that "troo black' only comes from Norway or something along those lines. I think that whole concept is hilarious given that the 'black metal scene' of the 90s was a bunch of stupid kids with nothing better to do than go around burning chruches that were responsible for preserving their nordic histroy to a large extent. Also they used latin phrases and writting aesthetically, another irony given that it was the Roman empire that subjectated the germanic people in the first place. And then you got the fact that they all worship lord of the rings, A book written by an Englishman... eh why even bother going on

[edit] Actually I did think of something else...Vampires. Wasn't Vald Tepes from what is now Romania?

i wish there would be more bands like Negura Bunget, with the guts and integrity do do a thing of their own.

some examples of this kind, which i admire:
Enslaved, Secrets Of The Moon, Lunar Aurora, Abigor, Deathspell Omega

a) Wrong. Simple comments of "this sucks" or "this is shit" doesn't convey any kind of authenticity to your views. Expain your disdain with proper reasoning or leave this thread. Your CONSTRUCTIVE response (or lack of) will only prove the validity of my point instantly.

This isn't a term paper, Webster, it's the fucking internet. Of course, the fact that I already offered an explanation seems to have escaped you. Not that I'm surprised - we can't exactly expect reading comprehension or an attention span from the kind of fellow who praises Negura Bunget, can we?

b) Now this is one of the most laudable comments I have read for some time.

Being right is always a 'laudable' thing (somehow though, I suspect your rhetorical reach has just exceeded your vocabulary grasp here - just a suspicion mind you, but nonetheless, there it is...).

A "derivative... trend"? There is a difference between bands who follow a trend such as the one you claim, and that of bands like Negura Bunget who proactively provide a strong musical expression of art.

Except that there isn't anything 'proactive' or 'artistic' in what they do - which is badly mimic older artists with the superficial surface sheen of novelty (synthesized 'folk instruments').

Obviously you are stuck in the three bar chord world of Darkthrone toiletry and haven't moved on since 1996.

First I was part of a teen craze for 'melodeath,' now I 'haven't moved on since 1996.' You are aware that these are mutually exclusive positions? So which is it going to be kid? Or are you just going to keep throwing up insults and hope one of them sticks?

c) Then share your mighty and credible knowledge with the rest of us: instead of "wasting time" on a band like Negura Bunget, who do you think is more original in Black Metal right NOW?

The only bands consistently doing anything worth noting are Summoning, Graveland (though ol' Rob has been losing his touch lately as well), and, perhaps, Averse Sefira. The genre hasn't exactly been productive, and Negura Bunget ripping off Nokturnal Mortum ripping off Emperor with 'folk instruments' certainly isn't productive either.

(And for the record, Romania is not a Slavic country).

Granted, Romanian is Romance language (albeit a Romance language where about 40% of the vocabulary is Slavic in origin). The culture, however, is a hybrid one in which Slavic forms predominate.

I hear very little similarity between Drudkh and Negura Bunget my friend.

They're the other end of the same equation (Burzum base) - you did actually read what I wrote? Oh, silly me! Of course you didn't.

d) And thus, my theory is proven: you've invested time in ONE release and based your judgement on that, how musical you are.

No, I've invested MONEY in one release - I've heard their later releases and seen no reason to make the same mistake twice.

The true artist takes time to mature and develop, and for some, they have the knack from the very start but this is not common. So yes, you've seen no reason - because you lack the vision to investigate further.

Excellence often takes multiple listens to suss out. Mediocrity, on the other hand, is immediately apparent. Negura Bunget = mediocrity.

Yeah, but who are you to know better than anyone else what is excellent and what is not? Honestly I think both of your arguments are rhetorical and subjective. In fact you are both saying pretty much the same shit just with a different point of view.

Well, for starters, I am by far the smartest person on these forums - possibly the smartest person alive today (alas, Adolf Hitler is no longer among the living). That should automatically elevate my opinions above those of the unwashed masses.

Evidently so.. sorry, I mistook you for just another shitbag whose opinion far outweighed their emprical knowledge. My mistake, thanks for clearing that up. As for how smart Hitler was, it took a real genius to make the exact same mistake Napoleon made, while fighting a war on two seperate fronts and then having his best general forced to commit suicide. I guess it was all the speed and syphillis that made him so clever.

It should work fine in windows media player mate - no extra codecs needed. Your download might have been corrupted, grab it again...

Fark. I downloaded it again and it's still complaining about codecs. This computer's rooted.

Can we not have a "quote every sentence with a retarded retort" scratching fest people? this discussion degraded into intar-web tardism as soon as the 'opethforum' goons showed up. get over yourselves.

whats cracking me up, is that "My Man Mahmoud"...IS actually guilty of what most of you noobs have always accused me of being. as you can see, there is quite a vast difference still...the grass is always greener.

For someone not interested, you sure spend a lot of time attending to my statements.

Of course, that may have something to do with the fact that you're trying to redeem yourself for getting tooled...
