It's the legal process that's fucked. He was a sperm donor. That was his role in the relationship. It's not like he's a deadbeat dad who did one of them over and then fucked off. There wasn't even any sex involved. If anything, it should be the responsibility of the carers to provide support, ie. which ever one of them no longer has legal custody. That's just fucking disgraceful. I hope this poor bastard gets the law changed and gets back every cent.

I think in *this* particular case it's a little bit more complicated than that. I read in another article somewhere that I can't be arsed chasing up that he actually had an ongoing relationship with the child. He bought him Christmas and birthday presents, phoned him semi-regularly and the kid called him "Dad", so in effect he kinda was acting like a father. He even allowed the his name on the birth certificate, which is probably where he really fucked up.

It's stupid and bullshit, because in the end he was just a friend of the family, but with the law the way it is, that's how it is.
