Neumann TLM127, U89, U87

SM57 works real good for saxophone, that's what I used in the past.
The U87 would basically just be for vocals, maybe acoustic guitars or violins (have to compare with the AKG C451 which I like at lot), and in a few years, who knows, maybe I'll put one on each element of Terry Bozzio's drum kit, hahaha :)
We'll probably try to keep you informed with the To-Mera recording like last year, so stay tuned for more adventures :)

Yes, SM7 is on the list, but I see it more (maybe I'm wrong) as a microphone for grunters. ...
like Michael Jackson and Anthony Kiedis? ;)

but you're right, it's not the best mic for female vox...I'd 2nd (3rd, 4th, 5th..) the U87......I like 414 on many female vox, but I don't really dare saying that cause there is not much love for that mic on this forum ;).

nothing, it's a great mic IMO...just not for every voice (but that goes for pretty much all the mics).
the 414 is my goto mic for all non-nasal female singers and I use it everytime I do M/S recordings (often on acoustic together with the m160).

I'm not sure if this is the sound you're looking for but I've been drooling over getting an M-Audio Sputnik for a while now. Such a lush, warm sound :OMG:
