New album Foregone out February 2023

@DE4life What you're trying to say throughout your last posts is that you gave another try to Foregone and it's slowly growing on you dude isn't it?

Have yet to check those similarities you mentioned between Pure Light of Mind and Black Dragon though :tickled:

I've got a YouTube playlist on whilst I'm working and a bunch of Foregone songs are on there, so it's been a kind of passive choice :D I know it's sacrilege but I actually don't think Bleeding Out is that bad  it's not that interesting, but I still think it's better than End The Transmission and Cynosure, which are both crushingly pointless.

Nevermind him, he is trying to Stockholm syndrome himself into obedience.

Stage 1: Denial.

My stance on Foregone remains the same, for the record :D but if there's one song I'd say had potential if retooled slightly it would be Pure Light of Mind. I don't get the love for In The Dark... verses are devoid of anything worthwhile, chorus is just an earworm for the sake of being an earworm. No value.

Cynosure's parts are somewhat incoherent, not as much as Foregone 2, but End the Transmission is amazing. I love songs which intentionally fall apart, plus it's a fun, dark and gloomy closer for the record. It's like when a movie has a bad (ie. the good guys don't win) ending or a post-apocalyptic feel.

Plus the riffing during the chorus is just really good on both ETT and MYM. The latter song is really annoying, because everything fits so neatly and it only needed like 30 more minutes from Anders to come up with a slightly better chorus, or at least with a lyric which fills the word requirements. It kinda encapsulates this record as a whole: you don't have to dig deep underneath to find gems, because many great stuff comes right at your face, but it needed a few rearrangements in order to be a contender as a classic 10 years down the line. I still think it will age well, but it's like a 7/10 which could've been an 8 or 9 with just an extra few weeks of work, which is maddening.

Ok, gave the album another spin and still feels like more of the same since Jesper left. Yes, it's a bit heavier and the production is great, but those last three songs feel like a chore. It's even worst when you add the bonus track.

Some of the standouts for me are probably Forgone Pt. 1 and The Great Deceiver. Not incredible or anything, but two really solid tracks.

Other than that. Opening track goes nowhere interesting and State of Slow decay I don't even count it as an original song. Meet your maker sounds like Scream but not as good. Pure light maybe would of been ok with a better singer, but at the end of the day is just forgettable. The rest, who gives a shit.

Gave it another spin while working.

Pure Light of Mind is maybe the most interesting song here. Not the best, but at least different. If SC and Battles had a child and that child had a good production, it would be called PLoM.

Vocals are still comical though. Layers, autotune and shit. But the most funny thing is a layer of screams throughout the song. Like, we're gonna make this ultra cheesy and commercial song, but lets keep the screams somewhere because we're still so metal. That 0.03 seconds of screaming will really make a difference.

Forgone and Cynosure still OK. The rest are generic fillers with more or less metal content. Like with Battles I can't remember the names and identify most of these songs.

Anders has a habit of doing this in IF clean songs, there will always be a point where he'll briefly scream or growl. Even on Stay With Me he screams at the end.

Retarded.

Stay with me screams really bother me. Those screams and lack of a good solo are my only two issues with that song.

You have a nice song and then you get some random angry cow/chicken bleaaghhhh for 5 sec. Why?

But that adds to the song. It turns a scorpions-like ballad into something better.
I am glad that I can finally say that you are the voice of reason in this particular matter. On the other hand, I am absolutely flabbergasted that not only it needs to be said, but the ending screams is what makes others not like SWM that much. The Englishman and IF's Strict Chinese Dad were both criticizing Foregone for being pretty average and forgettable, than trash the part of an ITM song which seperates it from bang average to something cool. If you ever needed a proof that fans (me included, before everyone suddenly gets offended) are retarded, then this is case #402 in point just in this subforum alone.

Some of you really sound like people who are stuck in bad relationships and could strangle your partner because at this point you despise even the way they breathe, you are incapable of being at least somewhat impartial in an ultimately subjective matter, but you just can't leave. Not sure about your languages, but in mine we have a joke about a rabbit who always gets beat up when its wearing a hat, then always gets beat up for not wearing a hat as well. Kinda reminds me of that.

I think that's just subjective. But I really like what he's doing there. It breaks the mood and adds intensity. It's the same with the final chorus from System.

I personally like how that works.

Again, I'm dense today so I feel that my words make little sense.

If you think SWM needs some middle aged dude wailing like a banshee at the end then, in my view, you don't think much of the song as a whole. Personally I'd enjoy it just fine without.

Slave is just too weak to unapologetically stand his ground. No one is going to make fun of you if you enjoy the album, and it also doesn't mean that you are insane or retarded for enjoying something no one else finds enjoyable.

We listen to metal so we are violent by nature. If we, also, play videogames, then that makes us psychopaths. And I won't even talk about porn.

That's my favourite part of the song :rofl::rofl:. For me, the part that doesn't work is that ghostly voice when he sings "breathing life". That's annoying.

Maybe you are having an opposite day, but exactly. Messing with the final chorus is not exactly rocket science, it may be even considered cheesy, but it just works if done right, and these are definitely examples for the latter. I like evolving choruses (Leeches, Crawl Through Knives) but I think what they did with Reflect The Storm or Our Infinite Struggle is also cool. If anything, Foregone is actually missing this treatment on Cynosure but especially on Dialogue.

Now I'm not saying it's bad if someone doesn't like these, but listing them as cons after all the complaints from the same people for being boring just spins my head.

You said you write. I don't understand then why don't you find the very simple storytelling of the protagonist either being fucking desperate by the end, or in another interpretation, the protagonist actually turning out to be not the one you should stay with, because they are already too far gone.

Whatever one's interpretation is, it's simple, it's self-contained, it's human.

I'm fine with it too, but it wouldn't bother me if it wasn't there either :loco: I'd like the song regardless.

Yeah bruh, deep as fuck, just like that incredible mask metaphor. Whoa.

Ps. They already did it better on System.
