Wow do I hate this band. The vocalists are horrible and the guitars are generic. I used to like this band slightly in my nu metal years when I was 15... but not anymore!!! Really boring music and all the songs don't sound much different thanks to the guitar style.

it amazes me that when a band becomes more popular people begin to not like them for it. its ridiculous. i think they are good but as ive seen in the past when a new member is introduced it changes it for the worst... i hope this isnt the case.

No look at Agalloch, Amon Amarth, Burzum, Bathory, Immortal, Negura Bunget, Moonsorrow, Moonspell, My Dying Bride, Orphaned Land, Lykathea Aflame, and so on. All popular bands that are not hated by people just for being popular.

Not really. Sure, they are as generic as fuck, but they play METAL, and are actually better than any shitty emo metalcore crap. They are good musicians and songwriters.

No. Their songs are simple as all fuck. The lyrics and vocals are excellent, which makes the band listenable, but the guitars are boring and simple.

We are on extreme opposites here. I don't know you that well but first I must ask, do you play guitar at all?

As I Lay Dying is actually a christian metal band. They base their name on a book, but their songs are often religiously based, another reason for their big fan base. For some reason, you don't hear about that enough. Anyways, for this reason alone... their lyrics suck. Unless, these actually appeal to you, in this case... I apologize. My condolences for your loss.

I mention guitars because I used to be a pretty big AILD fan, and when I was trying to play metal on guitar, a lot of their songs were great for metal newbies and fundamentals of that. They actually have some pretty nice riffs and solos, they just don't shred whatsoever. I couldn't call the musicianship exceptionally talented but the riffs are... eh, fun?

I went to see AILD at sounds of the underground last year, I had quite a good time; this was before I started to get into the metal underground though so I don't think I would have enjoyed them that much now considering how boring their riffs are.
