Andy - you're the first guy I've seen use mic's specifically for the china's, and coincidentally, you get some of my favorite china sounds. Where'd you pick that trick up, if you don't mind me asking?

my guess: common sense, logic, and frustration

sometimes on a session, something will just annoy you... instead of trying to move around the two mic's which might already have a perfect image, in order to make the china's louder or more present, screw it.... just put a mic for the china, or whatever you're trying to pick up.

i often have this mentality during a session. just do whatever it takes to achieve the goal. even with all the technical jargon and proper procedure, you're still just doing the basic, capturing audio. do whatever it takes.
