New Edguy Video Posted!

Like I was trying to illustrate to Bryan, most power metal that we listen to sounds like a Helloween album from 20 years ago. In that case, why is that so original?

The lines between Helloween and Edguy have always been there to my ear. I would have never drawn a line between Edguy and Bon Jovi. It has nothing to do with the time line of 20 years more than the style of music. My reason for enjoying Edguy was that they sounded like Helloween. Now they don't. I still like them and I understand that bands evolve for better or worst. This evolution is obvioulsy better for them financialy but it is not better for me. I am still a Tobi fan and will give the new album a chance.

It's not a bad song. It's actually quite good. It's just not what I want out of this band. I want Theater Of Salvation.

In my belief, there is no such thing as a riff that hasn't been written. Somewhere, in some garage in the middle of Suburbia, the same riff has been played by thirteen other bands, yet they don't even know it.

After all, there's only 12 notes we can really play, right?

So everybody's gotta sound somewhat like someone else. A truly original, pure thought is incredibly rare. Those thoughts are usually the Nobel Prize winners.

Hell, I bet there ain't a musician out there who hasn't played a riff by some of the earliest rock bands.

OF COURSE Edguy sounded like Helloween. Hundreds of other bands tried to along side them. But Edguy did it WELL.

Now they don't.

Still though, this song is a far cry from what Jon Bon was playing 20 years ago, at least to my ears. Regardless, I like the direction that Edguy has went, but I like their earlier days as well. Maybe this next release as a whole will reflect both of those times. We'll see I guess.

Definitely better than RR, not quite Mandrake...

It does sound kinda "Avantasiaish", but personally that does not bother me.

To me, Edguy is no longer power metal, and are now power rock, and this assessment has been made listening to the whole new cd today. It is not bad, but they don't do much for me anymore, they have just lost their spark and power and have put their nuts on a silver plate instead of letting them hang where they use to be.

Power metal, power rock, heavy metal, heavy rock, they sound like this band, they sound like that band, yadda, yadda, yadda.......I realize its easy to dissect bands and all, but as a power-heavy-metal-rock fan, these guys are candy for my ears.

I will say that Tobias' vocals do sound ballsier than ever, but just overall generic music, but done good and with a good production, but where are songs like Hallowed and so on. Their older stuff does have that Helloween sound, but I like their first few cds better than I do anything Helloween has put out.

"The Pride of Creation," from the new album, kicks unholy amounts of ass.

That being said, the new album sounds a lot like Rocket Ride to me: some good songs, some skippable songs. One thing I noticed...Tobi's lyrics seem to be getting worse and worse. I mean, old Edguy lyrics were never exactly high poetry, but they really don't make much sense at all anymore. And almost every song has at least a few references to sex/blowjobs/cocks/etc...it gets old, fast. :|
