New Emmure vid

i still don't understand why people can't see this as a form of art like anything else
even if its mechanical, repeatable, manufactured even...

00000000 or 01010101010 what does it matter

some dude is hanging upside down right now in his backyard, and throwing red paint on a blanket, which will later be framed and sold for 250 grand

and some dude is palm muting 0's and 1's on a mac book right now which will later be sold on a 10 dollar disc to thousands of kids who will attend the tours so they can kick the air

there's really no sophistication to be had here. its art. if you want something else, go find it!

There's always a diplomat isn't there.... Who the fuck do you think you are? Joey Stu....

I clearly see where you're coming from but it still doesn't mean it's Art.

Just like the dude hanging upside down and throwing red pain on a blanket, it doesn't mean he's an artist or is even doing art.

If I did that, or you, would it be considered art? Obviously not, I can't simply go out there and decide that I'm an artist and am going to do art, there's a basic principle and it's so much of a creative area that it is definitely not for everyone. If I can pick up a guitar and play open and palm muted chords on a drop tuning and look good and decide I want to have a band because I want to bone chicks and look like a bad ass motherfucker that doesn't mean I'm being an artist nor doing art, just because I'm, at first sight, doing something that resembles art, but at a closer look it's still me trying to look cool and bad ass because I think it's cool and hip and not necessarily putting my soul and thought into the creative process itself, just me looking all cool or whatever my intention is.

I clearly agree with you, in your general idea, but not as a defense statement to this exact subject (posted song).

yeah but what i'm basically saying is, anyone can question anything because anything we have as humans was created by us. any ideas, theories, languages, speech, the alphabet, numbers, math...

everything we know, we made up. so on a very very "big picture" level, it doesn't matter that one guy can paint a red slash on a canvas and call it art like a 3 year old can do the same with his or her finger on a piece of paper. even in situations where quality or lack thereof differs, its not right or wrong, nor dumb or smart. those attributes can only be classified by opinion which will never be 100% in any single opinion's favor.

so emmure combined some sounds together and called it a song. but what is a song? who decides that? who decides that the sounds being combined create music?

the artist is really the only authority on it's definition. so fundamentally, as a listener, you are wrong to define it, but you are entitled to interpret it however you want.

i'm not saying people can't go around screaming "THIS IS DUMB". but I am saying, who made "you" (generally speaking, not specifically talking about you) the expert on hardcore / metalcore songs, or songs, or music, or sound. no one has, because no one can.

^ Agreed. While I personally don't like Emmure's music, they have acquired quite a following (partly because of the way you mixed it and all) and I'm glad for them and their fans. Why make such a deal out of it?

i just want any type of music to have it's own deserved standing place. i think its shitty for anyone to say, hey you started banging trash cans together and i don tthink you should be able to do that because the thousands of people that go see stomp shouldn't be able to give money for something they like.

i swear i say this every time people discuss the latest sturgis recording.. alas..

haters gonna hate.

thanks,

Again, I agree to an extent, we share the same vision of creation and art but the fact is that society and conceptions come into play when something is interpreted by an individual, obviously, every single conception or idea was created by us, humans, but once it's established as an idea by a mass it becomes a fact otherwise we just run around in uncertainty, like music is music because of the basic rules a conjuction of sounds represent to recreate what we think of music and not random noise.

But let's not go off-topic, I don't really like the music at all, the vocals get a bit on my nerves, but the mix is obviously solid and it makes listening a little bit more pleasurable, but the music itself fails to cross a point, it's just annoying :/

The music is what I expected... a decent idea every now and then with lots of filler in between... I'm not going to say it's not music, because people like all kinds of different music for very different reasons, and I accept that. However, personally speaking, I find it uninspired / uninteresting for the most part.

The mix sounds great though. Are the guitars & bass POD? The bass sounds massive.

i almost never use pod / pod farm for bass.
but there are a few songs that have a pod farm setup for part of the bass sound

the bass is layered in most songs

I think metal is about innovation and creating something new and different always progressing, with heavy music you have no limitations. As for art anything can be art one person can not judge or decide what anybody sees as art. Some guy probably smeared his own shit on a canvas and sold it to somebody who put it in on the wall in their home i personally wouldn't do that but one mans garbage is another mans treasure. How about we all just have constructive criticism if you never liked emmure in the first place and don't like it now just don't say anything.

Joey, there were a few parts in the album where it sounds like the kick is clipping a bit.. Is that intentional, or??

i dont think the kick clips for the most part
it might be possible in very few spots because my limiter hated some of the songs in tiny little spots

i adjusted it on songs where it would be a huge deal if i had not. for instance, when the whole band is hitting notes with a floor tom and a kick at the same time, it was disgusting, so those songs had to have a slower release time with the limiter

but if it was just one or two kicks somewhere in the song, i left the limiter aggressive
