Hi Everybody,
This Xmas i will celebrate a year since my first electric guitar (i've been having an acoustic for one and a half now). My budget is low, since i want to buy other stuff in the near future. So my budget is between 300-500. I don't care about the shape and brand as long as it good and is not a les paul. I want it for metal. Now i'm playing a shitty strat replica by yamaha, that has OK action, ok sound, nice feel of the neck, shitty bridge feel, the tremolo is pretty sharp and it is not once, that when i was playing too hard palm muted notes i cut my palm. I paid 150 for it last year, and it was good for the money, but i feel like moving a step forward. Any suggestions? I don't care about the number of strings, it will be tuned one step down, D standard (even if it is a seven, i will tune one step down).
Any suggestions?
Steve, did you by any chance on some thread a while ago that import BC riches are actually pretty good? (or am I confusing the man and the message board )
Thanks a lot
Paul

Nope, LOTS, that would be my first and main suggestion, if you're looking for a metal axe. The new BC's are really a LOT BETTER than they have been in years. I toured with a Black Platinum Pro Warlock last year with Nevermore, as my back-up, and my mainstage guitar when we played Dreaming Neon Black. And I can say it played equally as good as my White Custom Shop Warlock! Check 'em out man, they've come a long way recently.:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Although Steve is a BC Rich endorsee i know hes not padding his responses ....BUT....

For the money You cant beat a Schecter Diamond Series. They are the best guitars for the money.

Check out the Damian 7 String They run like $400 and they Fucking SLAY !!!! ... Not to mention AWSOME Flying Bat Inlays ... it doesnt get much more metal than that ... lol

Check out the Gryphon aswell another great guitar for the money about the same price.

Personally id go with the damian. Its similar to the guiar jeff plays its got the EMG's (passive emgs but no routing required if you decide to move up to actives) ... its just a killer guitar

I second what Guru is saying. Most people who I've introduced to Schecter have become instant fans.

You get pretty much all the hardware you could want... STOCK. No messing around installing aftermarket pickups, necks etc.

I love my Hellraiser, like a true Loomis fanboy. The thing is fantastic and I wouldn't hesitate suggesting one to anybody after a metal guitar.

But since you're after something cheaper, check out the model guru posted.

Hey Paul,
Personally, out of the two you've shown here, I would go for the Bich. Now, let me tell you why_.
This is the newer line of BC import models I'm talking about. Notice it is a neck_ through_ model. Ultimate sustain, and the playability on those is really good!
About the only thing you'll eventually want to change( or maybe not, if you tweak 'em enough i.e. raise the pickups closer to the strings) would be the pickups. Everybody does that, and I remember I changed mine on my first BC almost immediately to Seymour Duncans. I now happily use EMG's in all of my guitars. But, I have heard these pickups they have in these guitars, and they are pretty damn good!

Not knocking them, but which guitar "looks" more metal? BC or Schecter? Come on now! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

What happened to the girly pink ignitor? Or was that after British Airways decided they liked it better with no bits sticking out from the body?

To get back on topic...the Bich seems like a steal at $349.99. I know dealers always knock a bit off RRP, but 65% off is bargainaicious!!

I've read reviews that say these are better than the Washburn Dimes. I've got a couple of Washboards, and if that's the case the Dean will serve you well. Plus, it's got a locking trem AND it's pointy!!

I've not played a Schecter, but, y'know, it seems you can coax a decent tune or two out of 'em...

Ya where is that Ignitor? I love the looks of that thing.
I wish B.C. rich would put that out as a production model.

thanks everyone who posted in this thread!
So i narrowed it down to the damien-7 http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Schecter-Damien-7-Electric-Guitar?sku=513104
or the bich http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/B.C.-Rich-NJC-Bich-Electric-Guitar?sku=512287
the thing is, as steve said the bich is a neck-through, but has pickups i never heard of, the damien however has pretty good pickups in theory, 7 strings, but it has the neck bolt-on.
i hope they have those guitars at guitarville (screw guitarcenter) so i can try them out.

Hey Lord,

If you go with the Schecter go over to the NM board and look at my post about my new C7 Hellraiser. There is a dealer here in Ohio that is selling them at crazy low prices. I got my C7 for $566 ($133 less than GC) and DreamingNeonBlack got a 6 string Hellraiser for $100 bucks less than GC also.

The guys contact info is:
Tema Guitar 431 Beecher St.Ravenna, OH 44266 Phone: 330-325-2279
Ask for Kevin.

If you do call him, please drop my name, Jeff Wenzel (i can get some free swag out of the deal).

Ok, I hate to sound biased but this is just my own opinion.
I think that since Bernie Rico Sr (Founder of BC Rich) passed away, and his sons, Bernie Jr and Joey Rico left, I think that BC Rich guitars now can't be compared to the axes that they used to make.

Yeah, I do realise that Bernie Jr has had more of a focus on the Custom Shop but at the same time, he was the guy that kept BC Rich going during the mid-90s... He was checking that all th models were up to scratch etc.
I would go for some new BC's out there but I wouldn't say that they would be up to my standard as far as sound, tone, playability and looks.

I have talked to Bernie Jr quite a few times and we get along like peaches and cream since I am potentially his first Aussie customer. His guitars are a bit of an investment but he makes your dream guitar... His line is truly sick. They're a lot cheaper compared to most custom-jobs but they're still harsh for someone like me who only gets $150 AUS a week.

All I know is that if you want to be truly happy with a BC Rich, best save up some money and go custom shop... Steve's Ignitor and Warlock are proof that they still have some capability in making a sick axe...I've never played Steve's axes (or even formally met him lol) but I can just tell that they blow normal BC's outta the water.

If I was in your place mate, I'd get a Schecter Hellraiser series. I have played others but some are a bit less quality than others. I have played a majority of the new ine and the Hellraiser is the best as far as, tone, playability, looks and comfortability. I am getting a C7 Hellraiser soon and I think it's the loudest, sweetest-sounding and most comfortable guitar I've ever played... I didn't even play it pluged in and boy it was loud.... Schecter's string-thrus are something to be witnessed to be believed.

That's just my opinion so I'm not calling BC Rich's low quality or a bad guitar... I just think they've lost some quality over time.

so i narrowed it down to the schecters
between these three which one would you go with in terms of the way they play, and how they sound as in metal. I want something that can sound good for leads without sounding like a cat mewing in torture :)lol:) and can sound "evil" for rhytms. I really don't care about how many strings they have:
damien 7 http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Schecter-Damien-7-Electric-Guitar?sku=513104

damien 6 http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Schecter-Damien-6-Electric-Guitar?sku=513102

damien fr

about the last one how much will it be able to endure floyd rose abuse in the style of old sepultura solos as in the arise solo for example?
The floyd rose is not one of my requirrments.

Also, Souls of Black? How much would your dealer sell these for?
Thank you everyone,
Paul

I'm sorry Steve, but most BC's just looks silly and non-metal to me :p
  To which I belately reply, and with all due respect, ask, what's so METAL looking about a Schecter? Really, Noumenon, I like strat shaped guitars, and will probably have few added to my collection eventually again, as I did in the recent past( when I could not find a BC), but who made the rule that a strat shaped guitar body is more metal than anything BC has put out over the years? Those guitars, although in some hands not as "metal" as we all would expect, DEFINED metal guitars for years. There ares still plenty of metal bands out there, including Cannibal Corpse( Pat O'Brien), Slayer(Kerry King), and many other bands out there today, playing BC's. I'd like to think I'm in some good company there, and I've played them for the majority of my playing career, import and American made, and custom shop, and just love how they all play, sound, and look!
I'm happy with them, and trying to spread the happiness is all! :headbang:

To reply to Zakatron, I respect what you had to say as well, regarding Bernie Jr., and the fact that he did have a lot to do with BC over the mid 90's, before the company was again sold. I like what he's done with his stuff, and yes, they are an investment, to be sure. Any guitar is. As I said before, I toured with an import BC in my touring collection on the TGE tour, and, with the exception of putting EMG's in it, the rest stayed like it was, and played fine. I can see what you're saying about how the company did lose some quality over time, I agree there, so do they, but they have turned it around, and they are worth checking out.

To Evil Pete, ha ha good one buddy! But, it's PURPLE!   And it wasn't just BA, it was EVERY GODDAMNED AIRLINE IN EXISTENCE that wanted to hack that thing apart. It's resting comfortably, and has a new custom molded case built for it, and will be making a return, with me, next year!

Everybody, whatever guitar company you like is what ever you like, just like me,so in the end, as long as you're happy with what you choose, then that should be it!

LOTS, just glad you made a decision that I hope you'll be happy with, that's all that matters in the end!:headbang:

In my humble opinion BC warlock with SD pickups has the sickest "squeely" sound I've heard on most guitars. :headbang:

I'd say that the whole looks thing is irrelevant until he's up showcasing his skills with people judging his playing by the shape of his fiddle... I'll always take Schecters because they're solid chunks of wood and they're made to take a beating. I wouldn't do the Floyd Rose one, on the grounds that it's a whole lot of work to be doing on a guitar unless you really want the whammy action. I also would recommend that you consider the neck size of these guitars, as Schecters aren't equipped with wimpy little Ibanez toothpicks - this'll be much thicker than your Yamaha in either case, the question is whether you're going to be willing to get used to the feel of a 7-string neck (which is substantially larger) or not. Finally, strings get costly - since you're throwing it down a whole step, you're not going to want to use strings lighter than 11-49 (with 10s in D you're going to sound like a squirrel being swung around by its tail) on the top six and I wouldn't recommend anything lighter than a 70 on the bottom - trust me, this gets costly. Either move to SIT strings or get used to buying bass wires.

That aside, I'd go for the seven on the grounds that it's just that many more notes to play with. If there were any way for you to pull together another $200 you could grab a Blackjack or Blackjack 7 (which I couldn't recommend strongly enough) but if not you can explore the wonderful world of pricey pickups some other time and still have a solid guitar until then.

Jeff

LOTS - I'd go for the one with the Floyd Rose. Once the strings stretch out, you can wang it to death and it'll still be in tune.:headbang:

Pink.

Last time I was in Denmark Street in London, there was a 5 string version hanging on the wall of one of the shops. Same colour an' everything. Two and a half grand though (about $4,000 - $4,500).:OMG:

Steve's pink/purple BC looks bad ass!!!

anyway as many of the other guys said on here, schecters are a good guitar. though its all about your taste, everyone here could give you the lowdown on guitars but its all about the feel of one as well.

Go to a guitar shop and play with a few. I used a Fender Strat for many years for metal before i moved up with the C-7 and my RG 270 DX.
