Hey guys, I am thinking of buying a new guitar for when someone brings in some POS that just sounds terrible so that I will have something else to offer them. (no more recording Squires hehe)

That's what I was looking at getting. Basically I want a guitar that is going to sound great for a lot of different projects. I have a nice Strat that anyone can use for something other than metal, but I want something that will work for a lot of different metal bands who might not have good gear. What do you guys think about this guitar? Would it do what I need it to do? Do you have any guitar you've used with great success on a lot of metal sounding projects? Any other suggestions for guitars that might be better than this and around the same price range (~1000USD)? Thanks guys!

That ESP/LTD is a good guitar I tell you!
Uhm not really agree about "not going wrong" w/ EMG's.
The guitar has to be good, I bought months ago a cheap guitar: a Cort Evil K6 with 81/85 combo, I never had an active pickup in my life so I wanted to test those pickups without spending too much on the instrument.
At the shop it sounded good then at home the guitar sounded thin, cool thing the body is mahogany.
If they put cheap mahogany on it, the guitar won't sound good with EMG's.
EMG's need lowend, cheap guitars don't have lowend.
Wtf why did I buy that guitar :(:waah: :waah: :waah: :waah:

The cort evil k6 is a good guitar, the emg 81 is a bright pick up with not to much low end, it depend for shure that the wood of the guitar....I have a jackson dinky usa selected series with this combo of pick ups, the guitar have alder body and the sound is fat with plenty of low end...probably one of the best guitar that I have tried.
I tried also the cort evil k6 and and it sounds good, not to bad.

Get somethign without a floyd rose so drop tunings are easier if a band needs to drop tune.

Id reccommend a Schecter C1 Blackjack.

I ended up getting a Schecter C1 Hellraiser. It's pretty cool and a dude actually used it on a recording a few days ago which came out real cool too (I'll post clips soon!).

The only thing that's wrong so far is after the band tracked with it, I put some new Daddarrio 10's on it and I was getting a lot of fretbuzz (the other dude was using 9's no problem). I've never really worked with these Tone Pro's bridges much before, but the intonation seems to be dead on. I tried a little graphite in the nut but that didn't help much either. With these Tone Pro's bridges on string thru modules should I just move up the bridge a little bit you think?

I have exactly that viper. it is in deed a great guitar. since I have that one I was looking forward to buy another guitar but none of them (LTD EC 1000, ESP CTM II Black) sounded as good as my LTD Viper Deluxe and so I sold them again.

The Viper, or at leas mine, has a verry specific sound and might not be really variable. But I'd say you can't go wrong with a viper.

talk about bang for your buck. . . i bought this badboy about a year ago and i've been totally hooked on it since. they are kind of rare to find, and i've honestly never heard of it until i picked it up in manny's music in nyc. i tried em all! LTD, Jackson, Fender, Gibson, Schecter. . etc. but when i picked up that sz 320. . . i couldnt beleive it wasn't butter. it comes loaded with duncans sweet mahagony with string through set-in neck and this thing stays in perfect tune forever unless you try to lean it against a wall. . LOL:rock:SOLID

honestly, until THAT day, i only played ibanez basses whilest shunning their guitars to hell because i had nothing but trouble with them but this guitar has been a pleasure since day one, approaching day 365. . .

nice choice, i really love that guitar.

i'd suggest inching the bridge up a tiny bit, or doing a setup for .10's
