Hi,
i got shure srh840s a month ago and compared to my old trusty panasonic phones (crappy phones, but i'm very familiar with em) they got this huge low end and overall much better sound quality. I have burnt them in and the low end became less flubby and more precise, but it still somehow sounds too big.

Long story short... i mixed my latest demo to a point that sounds good with shure (and not that good with ol phones..). I would appreciate some feedback about the overall balance and the low end.

This is just a scracth track demo for my drummer to record real drums (someday soon i hope) to it, so guitars are just podxt, bass is agmebargig BIG.

Intro is guite long.. so just skip it :)
Thanks!

Bass guitar needs some work. Too much lowend, not enough mids. Sounds like a Korn bass, which works for them but I don't think for this. The guitars don't sound bad, and I really like the delay on them. The one of the left needs a bit more gain for those palm mutes though. Then again, Tool's guitars are kinda undergained.

Really don't like the drums but they're getting replaced later so nvm.

Yeah, I had hard times dialing that bass tone. I wanted it to be dirty and I wasn't too happy with more middy sounds, tried pod farm also...

But this mix sounds awful with my old phones and that's one reason why i'm a bit worried. Bass sound is thin and it's lacking lows and mids, and high end is somehow really harsh. My other songs mixed with old phones doesn't THAT bad with shure.

Guess I should listen more music with them and do more referencing.. basically I should learn them better.. because they have great sound anyway.

But thanks for your toughts.

Do you do any mixing with monitors or all through cans? I find it really difficult to judge bass and space with headphones. I've got a pair of Senny HD650s (which are really nice and I love to death) but I still have to reference monitors before getting the balance right.

It's all cans at the moment.. i just moved from small apartment to a bigger house, so i'm planning to buy decent monitors in the future. But i also crashed the rental van so i have to sell some gear to pay the repairing bill.. not nice.
