Maybe not everyone here's cup of tea, but has anyone heard it?

From what I understand of this release, it's a new single, and then some re-recordings of the Something Wicked Trilogy, which is going to be expanded for 2 new discs, a Part 1 and Part 2. It's still Ripper, and he's re-interpreting matt's stuff, which is a bit weird for me...

Anyhow, haven't listened to IE in a while, but I still have a place in my heart for them, I guess. I can get the single on eMusic, so I think I will end up getting it at some point.

really? You dont mind some Iced Earth but dont like Symphony X at all?
Odd I must say.. Why is that do ya reckon?

Iced Earth sounds more manly i guess lol

The main difference is that Iced Earth is more straightforward, the singer is listenable...and the band, as a whole is far more competent when it comes to songwriting...Symphony X is infested with power metal pomposity and guitar wankery. Not saying Iced Earth is awesome, because they aren't, they are mediocre at best and i admit it, but whatever...i like some of their tunes.

I'm probably in the minority here but I think Barlow did a much better job on the Something Wicked Trilogy. Not really an Iced Earth fan to begin with though, I think their sound gets old pretty fast.

Haven't heard it, but Barlow was my favorite of the IE singers. I thought most folks felt the same way.

Yea thats true they are more straightforward, I'd have to disagree on the singing though, I find the Iced earth singer unlistenable at times but I quite like Russells Allans voice.

has matthew barlow returned to iced earth? used to listen to this band a lot 4-5 years ago. is the new one wort checking out?

No, unfortunately it's not matt barlow, Don. It's still Ripper. I think Matt's working with the department of homeland security or something like that. That was the last I heard, at any rate. Too bad, I think he had something kind of different. I've heard only clips of the new one, so I don't know.

Actually, Matt is back into metal finally.

But its with the band Pyramaze. =\

Oh, and IE is fucking fantastic, Alive in Athens is one of the best live albums ever. And come to think of it, I got the new single but I haven't listened to it yet. I hated GB, even though it wasn't all Rippers fault, but still, man he sounds so... weak(?) next to Barlow.

He's back and not in IE? Wow... Matt's message on the Pyramaze site is very interesting. He sounds like a pretty reasonable guy, and I have to wonder at some of the specifics of his tenure and departure from IE. And maybe Jon Schaeffer is really as difficult to work with as I've heard...

I used to be an Iced Earth fanatic back in high school. I have every Cd theyve ever made and the Alive in Athens Dvd. They were my favorite band for a while, probably because they were able to mix old school thrash like early Metallica and power metal so well while still sounding dark and less corny than typical power metal. Ive heard the Overture of the Wicked Ep and its pretty depressing. Ripper cant even come close to the vocals of Barlow so sadly I think Iced Earth is gonna go downhill fast. I cant wait to hear Barlow with Pyramaze though. Theyve been one of my favorite power metal bands sense "Legend of the Bone Carver" and Barlow can only make them better.

He's not quite the prima donna prick that "AIDS" Chuck Schuldiner was (i.e., he's never ditched his band on the eve of an overseas tour because he figured he could make more money staying at home and recording a new album), but he's pretty damn close.

Barlow was much better at everything than the ripper guy; he sucks and has ruined Iced Earth for me. The Glorious Burden was patriotic redneck garbage, but everything before was enjoyable.

i love how iced earth cover themselves over and over these days without even hiding it. seriously jon schaffer didnt a good song in ages. i used to be a big fan tho like around the times something wicked was released. i still like burnt offerings a lot tho but they changed alot. glorious burdon was horrible 'the ego flies free' :S

Yeah, it is pretty stupid. They have the originals, than Days of Purgatory, their Alive in Athens live album, the best of cds, and now their covering the trilogy. If you bought everything they've made you would end up having 4 or 5 copies of the same song.

At least its not like Aerosmith though who release one new song on a best of album every time something new comes out, lol.

As big of a fan I used to be, I have to admit that they are going downhill. Night of the Stormrider-Something Wicked they were really good. I wish Matt would've come back to Iced Earth instead of that other band, though.
