new IE sux beyond belief

Well, I guess I'll be the one to offer a dissenting opinion.

First off, let me state, there is no bigger fan of Matthew Barlow than I. With the possible exception of Geoff Tate, Matt is my all-time favorite Metal singer. And to that end, I was full prepared to loathe the new Iced Earth disc. But, much to my surprise, I think it's fantastic. I'm not sure what everyone dislikes about it so much. I think the songwriting is strong and the music sounds fantastic. As a matter of fact, I'd go so far as to say, that in the absence of a stellar release from Nevermore, Evergrey, Opeth or Symphony X, I'd be surprised if "The Glorious Burden" isn't my #1 CD of 2004.

Flame away.

Go. Buy Night of the Stormrider and the self-titled. NOW. Those first three albums (well, plus Purgatory and AiA, I suppose), are the only reasons that Iced Earth is worth anything...THEY'RE THAT FUCKING AWESOME.

Still haven't heard the new album, only a handlful of tracks...Red Baron slays, Reckoning is pretty badass, Hollow Man is better than their last few ballads, Eagle Cries is the worst IE song ever.
