Hey kids, here's my latest attempt to record & mix something on my own, I think I'm improving over my other mixes for sure.

All you guitar nerds might get a kick out this one too, there's a nice little solo section in the middle. Nothing incredibly fancy but it's not too often that I write leads so this was a fun one for me.

Haven't heard this on any speakers except for my monitors, so please critique the shit out of this one!!

I would like to know what's good for getting rid of that hashy, unpleasant noise in the lead tone though. Just an EQ notch maybe? It's most noticeable during the "solo" section starting at like 1:42-ish, and I can't seem to make the leads "pop out" without them simply sounding too loud. Make sense?

Cool!! Good to know, usually with these monitors the bass sounds loud and then I hear it on normal speakers or in my car and it's almost not even there, so maybe I overdid it this time, hehe

Updated mix - I decided that the bass wasn't too loud, it just wasn't compressed well at all. I recompressed it with a different plugin and think it sounds way more balanced now. Also turned up the rhythm guitars a hair - new link at dropbox now :)

Let me know what you guys think!!

I'm sorry I can't critique it much, I'm less experienced than you are since my recordings aren't quite there yet, but I think your updated mix does sound better. The bass sits better.

Thanks :) Although I'm pretty inexperienced with this myself, I've been recording shit for years but never actually tried to make it sound decent until this year. My old recordings sound TERRIBLE. This forum and the internet are great tools if you take the time to learn from them!

The bass still sounds a bit too loud to me in some parts. It takes the focus off the guitars which is where all the action really is. Should be an easy fix just by automating the volume where it needs it.
