just got my promo in the mail and i am quite impressed with my first pass through the new material. i haven't delved too deeply, but on the surface this record is a nice return to days of old. first track is shredding instrumental.

I'm looking forward to it personally, because I'm a big MegaDave fan. It'll most likely be a blind buy for me. :kickass:

Two words....
NO and THANKS....

I got blinded last time with all the hype.
Aside from one or two tracks UNITED ABOMINATIONS is a steaming pile of crap.

The band was GREAT live though, when they supported Heaven And Hell a couple years back, which led me to purchasing UA when it came out a couple weeks later.

I have VERY little respect for Dave these days.
He keeps saying how he has let the Metallica thing go, yet can't fail to bring it up repeatedly.
Furthermore, he indicated how GIGANTOUR was to rival Ozzfest in booking true underground bands. Sure, the first one may have done that, but since, it has been all recycled Ozzfest and Sounds of the Underground bands.

You can hear about 30 seconds of each track from an official preview:

I'm excited for it!

i agree, UA was garbage. so coming from me i am not attempting to hype it up.

now, is it as good as the old stuff? no way, but definitely a better step in the right direction than Death Magnetic was for Metallica.

I'm playing the download for the third day straight, I never do that with downloads. Once is enough to convince me if I want to buy or not the album. But in this case I can't get enough of the music! Like a buddy said probably the heaviest Megadeth since RIP. I do like UA (unlike "Risk", TWNAH and TSHF), but "Endgame" is light-years away from UA. I just wish they would have put the date out before PPX and not after.

This is actually a pretty ripping disc. To my ears it's the most agressive thing they have in a very long time. The guitar playing is fast and furious ... a lot of thrashy tunes. All said ... good stuff !!

I thought it was atrocious. I listened to it with my roommate yesterday and one of the riffs is almost exactly the same as "Last Rites/Loved To Deth" and there's another song that has the same tempo and key as Symphony Of Destruction (in fact, we were jokingly singing Symphony along to that track). Chris doesn't really add anything interesting to their songwriting and just wanks all over boring, unmemorable songs and the production is sterile as you can get with absolutely no balls. I feel like The System Has Failed was the last good thing they'll ever do. :(

Devy pretty much summed up my opinion on the new Megadeth album:

a) Chris doesn't have to add anything in the songwriting, he just slays playing the guitar!
b) TSHF is boring beyond redemption, UA was a step forward but "Endgame" is the heaviest album since RIP.

But you're entitled to your opinion and taste as we are to ours.

Don't know what the devin vid is supposed to prove or disprove....

I think he's trying to say that Dave isn't doing anything new and just throwing around the same riffs as he always has. (shrugs) Apparently, Devin is the "be all, end all" of what goes or stays in metal. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the way I've taken it. Regardless, I'm a Megadeth fan from way back and could care less if Dave does anything "groundbreaking". I love the guy's political rants put to metal music!

Towards the middle of the video, he goes on a rant about wanking and how it fills no musical void whatsoever, which is basically how I feel about this Megadeth album. This is a band with some of the most important and memorable solos in metal history and they put out an album full of non-catchy, derivative songs and soulless shred. I never said that Dev is the end all or the be all of metal either (in fact, my favorite Townsend material isn't even metal), so it's kind of annoying for you to put words in my mouth. I just found that particular sentiment to be congruent with mine.

Wyvern, just like you have your opinion, I have mine :D. In my opinion, "just shredding at guitar" doesn't even remotely cut it. TSHF has far better solos imo as well as better songs (and production), and Chris Poland is an infintely better guitarist.

funny enough, the same can be said about devin townsend and i say this knowing it's not your "end all be all" but devin "wanks" in his own way thus leaving plenty of voids wide open. it may not be guitar shredding, which he is aptly capable of doing, but it can be his "noisy" SYL works where it seems he is being noisy just to be noisy, etc. plus, with as many records as he releases and produces for other bands how much effort can he truly be putting into all his albums, thus ultimately releasing some "wank" material, himself.

i love devin, so don't get me wrong, but some of his stuff is overindulgent garbage.

he needs to do another pop metal album with steve vai, however! :headbang:

Hey man, I understand what you are trying to say here even though I disagree. However, "wank" in the context that I've been using it in simply refers to tasteless guitar noodling with no musical value whatsoever and has nothing to do with production or having a pissed off sound (hah, try telling grind and powervoilence fans that their bands wank!). I feel that's all Chris Broderick has been capable of even before he joined Megadeth. In the Loomis vs Broderick guitar duel on Youtube, Loomis isn't doing any ridiculous tapping bullshit, he's improvising using his own unique patterns and such. Broderick just plays cliche, tasteless shred licks that have no feel whatsoever. That flashy shit doesn't move me at all, even though it may have when I was much younger. I feel like that's what the last two Megadeth albums have been loaded with and it's horribly dissapointing, especially with this album where it sounds like Dave literally went through his back catalog and copy and pasted riffs and such!

And don't get me started on Dave's "beliefs," UGH!!!!

True, I have Poland's solo albums and they're great, but for some reason I never could get into TSHF. And as for production unlike my friend Brandon I'm not big into it, but I think Andy Sneap did a hell of a job with "Endgame".

You know is all about taste, perspective and even time frame, it took me 9 years after I became a metalhead to get into thrash. So who knows what I'm gonna like or dislike some time from now? For example right now I don't like at all Devin Townsend and the album with Vai was one of Steve's weakest IMO, but it seems TR like it and so are you. Each person is a world :D
