I don't know if any of you had the chance to check out the new Meshuggah but let me just say I'm so digging it. They totally KILLED it on this disc and I'm enjoying every listen. Hey if I'm posting about it I must dig it.

METAL!!

The only harsh vocal band that I can stand for more than 10 mins at a time. They strike me on an intellectual level which is opposite of other harsh vocal bands. obZen is a masterpiece.

What I like on this disc, I really enjoy. The other songs just don't spark my interest. It's still a solid disc though. I'd give it a 7 out of 10.

Meshuggah can eat a dick for all i care. Not at all my thing. Math Metal is overrated and has absolutely no feeling. I can live without it thanks.

You just don't get it.

I joke, of course.
A lot of brutal death metal has no feeling or emotion to it, but I still listen to it. Why? Because it sounds good. I can see why somebody would think that Meshuggah has no feeling but I really could care less about that. If the music is worth listening to, I'll listen.

Fucker

A lot of brutal death metal has no feeling or emotion to it...
This is absolutely not true. I used to listen to a lot of death metal (brutal, melodic, etc.) and i'm pretty much over the genre, but to say it has no feeling or emotion is wrong. It has no pussy girl feelings or whiny "bring a tear to your eye" emotion like prog does (as well as some stuff i really like... not bashing on anyone with this), but anger and hatred are legitimate feelings and emotions. doesn't mean everyone will turn violent listening to it, but it (along with black metal) is incredibly emotional music. It just isn't emo.

My point with this band is that they are referred to as "math metal" so they basically map shit out as opposed to just writing. This style is completely unappealing to me because it doesn't sound natural in any way (some progressive stuff sounds natural, don't go off on a 'you can only comprehend 4/4' jag on me guys :p ) which is why it rubs me wrong. I also don't like spiral architect or any of the other bands that are more focused on wanking and less focused on writing a song that will become classic and stand the test of time.

I love I, Nothing and Catch 33...just to make that clear. :)

As far as the "no feeling"...fuck that. If you can make sense of what's going on, then you "feel" what they're doing. I'm sure they "feel" it too when they're playing and writing it. Meshuggah connects with something deep and primal inside me in a way that few bands have ever been able to even come close to doing...(Zero Hour live at The Hook being one of them :D).

This guy right here, when he puts on Meshuggah, can completely slip out of the world around him and just feel the music and nothing else.

Math metal has no feeling my fucking ass.

I really think they hit a home run with ObZen. It's clearly on an entirely different intellectual level than other bands that play similar styles (think death metal, thrash, etc.). I've liked Jens' vocals better on other releases, as they seem to be a bit farther back in the mix than normal. While not a big deal to some...I really enjoy his half-growl/half-scream that comes off as relentlessly aggressive (and totally metal)...this time around, it seems to be more of a growl that sits just a notch further back than normal. That's very nit-picky though...I love this band, and I really love the new CD.

Meshuggah needs to get that vocalist from Zero Hour! ;)

The only other Meshuggah I have liked was Chaosphere and a few songs from Nothing, but this new disc totally blew me away and I love it, and it was all I was listening to, until I heard the new Bloodbath EP and that is all I can listen to now(with a little Warrel Dane solo disc thrown in).
