I am tracking guitars tomorrow and I had some extra cash. so I decided I'm gonna do something different than I have always done. I have either used a sm57 or direct with a v-amp or rg7. alot of guys say the Audix I5 is a great mic so I got one. what are some things I need to look out for?

My experience is that it's going to sound bigger and more extended than a 57 but won't drop straight into a mix as well. I've had good luck mixing it with the 57 to get a little more dimension.

Every time I try to use something other than a 57 on guitar and snare, it just reminds me of why everyone uses a 57.... I've never had too much love for the i5, even though I've owned and used one for quite a few years.

Although Youtube is not the best indicator of what a mic will sound like, Im kinda liking the I5 in mic shootouts. it's different. I'm gonna mic with it left and SM57 right and see how that works out.

Personally I prefer the 57 on guitars, but I much prefer the i5 on snares and toms.
After testing this mic out today on a Line 6 Spider. I feel it's ok not as good as the 57 but not that bad. but the Line 6 was putting out some freqs I just could eq out. so hopefully I can test it on a Marshall JCM800 this weekend
