New OCEANO song posted

same way, Zuess' stuff gets really boring.
like he doesnt throw the cool shit in an album to make me want to listen to the whole thing front to back. I usually get about 4 songs in and go "OK I heard this already and I know the rest of the album will be the same"

Nah, it totally does. If the bands you like rely on a producer throwing in ear candy all the time... well, you like shitty bands.

not to take sides, but i believe he was just specifically talking about Zuess' mixes. Not necessarily bands he "likes". Which i totally agree with. Sometimes i like a recording more than i like the band, thus i'll listen through the whole album just because of the cool stuff the producer added in. If the band sucks and the mix is bad/boring, then no reason to keep listening.

maybe i read it wrong though

I can barely hear what's going on, but the fact that it's on Youtube might have something to do with it. So far, I like the production on the old album more.

^^
Chris "Zeuss" Harris is a record producer who specializes in Metal and Hardcore albums. He is based in Hadley, Massachusetts and he owns and operates Planet-Z recordings. Zeuss started his music career in metal bands, the best known being Doom Nation, before taking on music production full time.[1]

well oceano in general kinda blows, but i like the mix, zuess is fucking sick, just listen to his hatebreed/earth crisis/arsis/new acacia/impending doom sorry but zuess rules

Yea I was talking about Zuess' stuff

But to be honest I listen to alot of music just for the production. Half the bands I listen to aren't really all that great. But at the same time music is music and can't really be judged past someone elses oppinion

I am ryans side here.
I love Zeuss mixes!!!!
He is sometimes a genius BUT:
sometimes I have the feeling he gets bored by the bands and only do as much as needed and not his magic.
listen to remembering never, terror(the damned the shamned) , shadows fall and ion dissonance. these mixes are masterpieces.

on the other hand listen to this or Legend.
sounds good but boring...

I like Zeuss's mixes in general, but I don't find a general "Zeuss sound" in his work like I do some other AE's. I don't listen to a lot of the band's he works with, so maybe that's why. I also think that if the bands sound similar and they go to the same guy, it's natural that the productions will be similar.

The only thing I've noticed in his stuff is that it seems "looser" for lack of a better term. Thick, heavy bass and guitars, but not as precise and edited as some other bands.

Meh, I think you guys are a little too hard on people's mixes in general, though. This mix sounds as good as pretty much any other "well produced" album in this genre IMO. Maybe the fact that I rarely listen to this style and do not own any CD's by any of these deathcore bands colors my opinion.

Is Zeuss known as a POD or amp guy? I've heard his "secret" on just about anything is to throw some POD tracks in the mix, even when it's touted as using real amps.

Zuess makes GOOD bands sound GOOD

sorry Ryan, Im going to have to disagree with you.

If the band is already "good" he would not need to add his magic.

if anything, If the band is "bad" those are the bands he should be adding his magic to, to make them sound better and more marketable.

I mean what kind of business strategy is that?
with what you guys are saying, Zuess would be saying this to labels
"Come to Planet Z and have you shitty bands sound shitty but your good bands sound good!"

Im not saying thats how he is, just going off of what you guys are saying and how I personally think thats retarded.
