New Opeth interview on a gaming site...Just go to ign.com

IGNM: Obviously both Martins have fit in with the band musically and personality wise since they've been a part of Opeth since 1997.

PL: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean Martin and Martin are totally different from me and Mike. But we gel really well together. I think it's because we're so different, you know? And the differences are so vast, so it's interesting rather than annoying to be with them. They stun me everyday with whatever they say or think because they're from Uruguay and they have a different lifestyle from me and Mike. So it's just interesting from a cultural point of view, actually. Me and Mike are really Scandinavian kind of characters, I think, whereas Martin and Martin are really South American, you know. The mix of the personalities blends really well for some reason. They're really good musicians, too. They've been in the band for almost six years now. I can't believe they've been in the band for such a long time because it doesn't feel like they've been there [that long]. It still feels like we're getting to know each other.
I wish he would've elaborated.

But yeah, it's always embarassing when a n00b does an interview (which is why I wouldn't want to :p), but I thought Peter was very patient.

well i dont want to see it just as much as you guys dont, BUT if thats what they do its what they do, BUT opeth is a band for the fans thats it, they may insight a few people along the way at ozzfest but how many of those people do you think are going to buy their albums? support the band go to their side shows? drive 6.5-9 hours to see them in cleveland? not too many, personally i liked the size of that show, less than 1k people, it was easy to see them and you felt really at one with the band ya know? seeing them up on a giant stage and shit is not cool, i also dont wanna see the local dumbasses coming up to me being like "hey man you like opeth? i got that one cd whats the name? its awesome, i saw them on ozzfest" thats just not cool, its cool for bands like meshuggah and paparoach  but just not opeth, and i think that pretty much everyone here will agree with me

I agree Lacent. I like the way the underground community is pretty close knit, how you see the same people at every show. I don't want some stupid kid saying how "dope" is because they saw them at ozzfest. I'd lose a lot of respect for opeth if they ever played Ozzfest.

exactly, i mean when i went to the show in cleveland i thought that i was gonna be the only one that drove 6 hours or so to get there, but NO there were so many people there from futher away than we were it wasnt even funny yet some from not 10 miles from me, it was amazing, and these are people that i talk to alot not

The ozzfest question was a joke.

The EIC of IGN Music got turned onto the band by the IGN metal boards (I post there alot).

He asked the boards for suggestions of questions, and the Ozzfest one was one of the one's suggeseted.

I thought it was hilarious that he actually asked it, and I thought this was a well conducted interview.

Originaly stated by that dumbass at IGN
IGNM: To me the intriguing thing is how Mikael sings like an evil Cookie Monster one second and then like a soothing James Taylor the next.

Why the fuck do all of these non-deathmetal people always call it cookie monster vocals if that guy said that to me i would laugh in his face and tell him he was a shithead. I mean come on if they are gonna interview a deathmetal guitarist they should at least know what to call the friggan vocals!! This is the third time i have seen this exact phrase "cookie monste vocals" used and it really pisses me off.

Don't be a dumbass. Its obvious the review was done in light humour, especially that part in particular.

Try not to get over-defensive over little things.

Besides, the guy who did the interview is new to death metal, and metal in general. I for one think he did an excellent job.

Do you really expect him to be a metal guru within weeks of hearing his first death metal band? No. I don't think so.

And I'm especially impressed with the level of things he researched for this. For example, going to the concert, checking out a lot of their stuff, etc.

As for the ozzfest thing. I happen to like the question, and I certainly hope they do goto ozzfest. It may be the only way a lot of us Canadians get to see Opeth.

Besides, can you really blame them for wanting a bigger fanbase. It makes no difference if they play at ozzfest or not. As long as they don't change the music for the money, which lindgren specifically said they do not want to do in the interview.

The guy that did the interview is just getting into death metal.

I admire the fact that he's open minded enough to try new forms of music, and it's great that he's giving a band as great as Opeth the exposure they deserve by making them the front page story on a site that gets as many hits as IGN.

..I'm in Canada and I just saw Opeth.

and I'll see them again soon :D

I think Peter tries to be really friendly in interviews, whereas Mike will gladly go and say "I fucking hate nu-metal!" or something to that extent. I'm glad to see Peter taking a more active role in the PR of the band.
