new Power Metal band - Forever's Edge

A band doesn't sound like YOU when they were releasing it 10 years before YOU.

It depends. I've come across bands that write songs similar to what I had in my head. So just because their music was already out there, does not mean that two bands arrived at a similar destination on 2 different and independent paths.

Suspyre and Myrath sound very little alike. Yet both bands are said to 'sound like Symphony X'. Very interesting.

It was a joke...

...but at the same time, I started writing music for the band that became Suspyre way before I heard of Symphony X. A number of Suspyre songs were written in 1999, when all I listened to was video game and classical music and popular bands like Metallica, and just started discovering the "underground" metal scene. I didn't own a Symphony X CD until sometime in college, after I heard them with Blind Guardian on November 21st, 2002. It was a coincidence that we both took the same musical path.

Are anachronisms a factor in musical creativity? There are plenty of bands whose influences seem clear, yet they never heard of the band to which they are being compared. There is way too much music out there to hear it all, so things like this happen. I had a band in my studio that wrote a song that was exactly the same as the first minute or so of Pain of Salvation's "Disco Queen," and other that had the same riff as one in Death's "Spirit Crusher," yet they never heard of either band.

The origin of musical inspiration can be a mystery.

Sounds great, SymXish or not. I never have a problem with bands that use a similar style to bands I love as long as the compositions are different. So disappointed that I missed the show in April. Don't you DARE play NY/NJ again w/o telling me!

I'll add my appreciation to Clay's vocals as well. Love it!
