With the possible exception of Tesla, most of the new material being released by 80s Metal bands sounds like material being written and recorded by tributes band. It's as if they're trying to sound like Ratt, rather than just being Ratt. Which really shouldn't surprise anyone. These are 50 year old men trying to reproduce an energy and a headspace they had in their 20s. It also doesn't help that Crosby and Croucier were a big part of the writing process during the glory years.

Suffice it to say, when I'm in the mood for Ratt n Roll, this won't be taking any cycles from the '84 - '86 CDs.

What Zod said about 80s metal bands.

What I'm noticing is that most of the time they just don't have the same energy they did when they were young. Two exceptions for releases this year:

1) Danger Danger- that album has enough youthful exuberance for the Jonas Brothers. When Ted Poley sings "I'll be 18 til I die" he's not just mouthing the words. That album is full of melodic energy.

2) Winger- the latest album is pretty mature, but then Winger was mature even back in the 80s. So they get better with age, I think.

Now Ratt, I haven't heard the newest, but 13 years ago I bought a comeback album and the best I can say is that it was enjoyable, but pretty tame and laid back. I can't imagine that they've gotten more energetic 13 years later.

The new Ratt is killer, I heard the whole thing too but I agree about the Winger album. That Winger was one of the best albums of the last ten years if you ask me.

I hit play already planning my post bashing the song. (I guess it's because 95% of the time I put on a "new song" by an 80s hard rock/hair metal band, it ends up sucking big time).

Surprisingly enough, this was really fun song.
