The SL-X is a better metal amp than the Dual Reveb (understatement). The ones in the pics are Dual Reverbs, though.
As for mods, the first couple of stages of the preamp are basically sort of like a distortion pedal built into the front end of the preamp. There are some pretty easy mods that can be done to the preamp of the Dual Reverb that make it a lot better for metal stuff.

Maybe its just me, but through the myspace player it almost sounds like Bulb recorded all the guitars for them. Djent Djent!

Even if something is shown in a video doesn't mean that it was actually used. They could have an endorsement that requires them to pose around with specific guitars/amps/socks for all public pictures and videos, while really using something completely different for the actual recording. Or maybe just fooling around with some random stuff, but in the end not ending up using them.
While the new album does kick major ass, im going to have to say that Pitch Black Progress still wins my vote
