New Symphony X - Iconoclast

I've always been a SX fan and really liked the production on this album - heard only a few songs without paying full attention to it. The guitar tone is nowhere near my favorites, but sits very well in the album context. Keyboards are always the weakest part of their work, specially tone-wise, always sounding like toys. Haven't heard enough of Iconoclast to comment on this matter though.

Sorry for the bump, but I'm producing a local band with SX influences, they like a lot the snare sound. Do you guys think that sound could be achieved using good samples? (Slate for example)

I'd be surprised if the snare on Iconoclast wasn't significantly constituted by Slate samples.

The snare this clip is superior drummer 2 (with a little metal foundry blended in) and, maybe it's just me, but to me it sounds pretty much identical, or at least pretty damn close to the snare on Iconoclast. And I wasn't even trying to make it sound the same, I noticed it later.

Would bet my ass he´s using snare20/21 z4. Did a short test with snare20 and a sample stolen from the last labrie album: (Song: Lord Of Chaos)

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. Metalmiller, I use SSD4, no Z4 samples there I think, what is the equivalent in the new SSD?
