New Tarantino

That was Eli Roth (the undercover cop who gets gut-shot in Reservoir Dogs, and the bellhop from Four Rooms). I knew he was supposed to be in the movie, but it was about halfway over before I figured out that he was playing the SS guy (he's got some prosthetic nose or something so he doesn't look quite like his normal self). He and Brad Pitt were both great in this movie.

Two thumbs up.

No, Eli Roth was the soldier with the baseball bat (the Bear Jew), also appeared in Death Proof, made the trailer for Thanksgiving. Yes, he directed Hostel etc.

TIM Roth is the actor that you are thinking of. He was also in the Hulk and currently the star of Lie to Me.
He was not the SS officer in the film.

I was actually kinda disappointed by this movie. Pitt was fucking awesome, every time he was onscreen was hilarious...but that was shockingly not very often. The Basterds are really hardly in the movie at all. Plus the ending scene in the theater plays out like an Adult Swim wet dream; I actually imagined Tarantino saying, in the voice of the nerdy kid from Robot Chicken, "Dude, wouldn't it be totally wicked awesome if we killed everyone in the Third Reich at the end?"

I loved it. I fucking loved it.
Sure there were parts that dragged but it was well done! Probably (in my opinion) Tarantino's best work since Reservior Dogs and thats saying something.

I'm going to come in here with a pretty radical viewpoint... I want to see this movie because it looks fun.

straight up. as self-indulgent and pompous a filmmaker as tarantino is, he has a good command of scope and pacing and he gives his actors a LOT to work with. and let's face it, watching the nazis get stomped never gets old.

Yep, agreed. I heard him being interviewed on a radio at work the other day, and he was pretty insufferable ("I was the reason they made Casino Royale!"), but I enjoy his work on a superficial level at least. Plus, seems he completely rewrites history and fills it with silly stereotypes... should be a laugh.

If people on this board are raving about it then it's probably worth the money. There have been times when people here went a little overboard with praise (The Dark Knight comes to mind), but they've never once let me down with a movie. This board is notoriously conservative with their movie reviews, so you can be sure that if they say it's good, then it's fucking great.

Yeah DW. I actually trust the opinions of the folks here more than say a movie critic's. I always think that actual movie going public opinion is more valuble.

Let's not get crazy. Test screenings to Joe Public have resorted in some great movies being edited, or some terrible shit being added. I'd say don't trust the cinema going public, because that same cinema going public ensures there will be a Transformers 3 and lots of other assorted bullshit.

Also, I don't think it's possible to go overboard with praise for the Dark Knight. That one will stand up to the test of time. It's truly, genuinely great.

Also, I go back to this - watch the Hurt Locker, people, it's fantastic.

Also...no wait, nothing.
