I've heard most of the songs off The Smell of Rain and i liked it.....but i want to know what his older stuff sounds like. i've also heard some songs off the stargate but i didnt really enjoy it as much as the smell of rain.

Well I'm new to Mortiis also, but if you didn't like 'The Stargate' you wont like the first era Mortiis.
yeah the smell of rain was quite a change for mortiis, a couple of his older albums consist of only 2 songs each but lasting 20 minutes a song and are kind of epic's

ethereallights is probably right when he says that if you didn't like The Stargate you probably wouldn't like his much older stuff. His first three albums in general consist of 2 long, drawn out 20 minute+ songs with neo-classical keyboard progressions. They are great albums in my opinion, and I listen to them all the time, but a lot of people think they are too repetitive or dull. Crypt of the Wizard is really when he started to shorten his songs down and add more wind melodies and such. Stargate is really his opus, and is my favorite Mortiis album, I think the songs are the best written and most imaginitive.
