Alright well I've been recording for a while now and have been trying to get a good tone out of my stuff. Maybe you guys can help me improve a bit.

This is the track i did the first round.

Here's what I have going on. Ibanez JEM7vwh with a BKP Warpig in the bridge straight into a Baron Custom Amps K88.

I'm using an SM57 aiming at the edge of the left of the cone at about an inch away from the cloth. Speaker is a G12T-75.

Here's a version I redid. Basically I scooped the mids a bit turned my presence and thrust up on my amp.

I thought it was a pretty cool tone to be honest. Pretty aggressive sounding, and it seems to work in this mix.

What did you do for the drums? They sounds pretty cool as well.

Hey man thanks. Which clip did you like better?

For the drums I used BFD2 with my own drum patterns and own mix of different cymbals and shit.

bad stereo pan, kick can't hear it, no bass, snare is okay for like maybe like death metal, guitars are fizzier then hell, no clarity, how are you micing it? got pics? and whats the chain

It's times like these when I wish I had a decent pair of fucking monitors. There is bass in it, I just need to turn that up I guess; along with the kick. Here's a picture of my mic and speakers. It's aiming right at the edge of the cone and is about an inch away from the speaker.

My chain is this.

Guitar --> Amp --> Cab.
SM57 -- 15 foot mic cable --> Lexicon Lambda interface

As soon as I get my TS-9 and old cabinet (with Vintage 30s) than I'll try the mix again. Do you guys have any recommendations for monitors. I'm using two dinky as speakers and a sub woofer. It's this http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/acc/hk395/en/intro01.gif

Also would you guys recommend and foam for the front or sides of the cabinet? My room is mostly brick/concrete walls but the ceiling is all sound proofing.

running a ts infront of it is gonna get rid of the mudd for sure, also those are gt75s right? defiantly try off axis for those speakers instead of on axis

The mic is already off axis, if you look at this pic...

IMO, running a boost will tighten up the low end, as would perhaps running the amp with less bass...Also, I think less gain would help clear it up a bit.

I'd also say to put the mic on axis (i.e. no angle as it's pointing at the "face" of the cab).

Just a quick question. What does everyone prefer V30s or K100s? G12T-75s....suck..looking out for new speakers for my 2x12.

Low pass is at 80hz, high pass is at 12000hz. No EQing and the mic is at the edge of the cone on axis. Quad track. The first two are 70% panned left and right, second two 50% panned left and right and are a 1db lower than the first two.

What do you think?

Well in that picture it is on axis. I guess the camera just played tricks.

on axis means the mic is perpendicular to the "face" of the source (i.e. 90 degrees from the source). Off axis means it is slanted and not directly on the source. In the pic, the mic is slanted to the "face" of the cab (as if the grill cloth were there), it is off axis.

On and off axis doesn't reference where the mic sits in front of the speaker, only to the angle of the source. Having a mic positioned dead center of the dustcap, at the dustcap edge or on the speaker edge can all be placed on or off axis.

Try panning the 4 tracks harder, like a pair at 100% left and right, and then the second set 75-100% left and right.

Alright, thanks for clearing that up, now I get it.

I panned them a little harder and added a bass but I took out the drums because they are pretty bad.

Does anyone have any good metal presets for BFD2?

I'm trying to get a good preset that is something like the drums from this song. Use 480p to get a better idea of the sound.
