New Tool album

It's pretty good in places, but I always find them to be a bit self indulgent. I eventually get bored about 2 thirds of the way through their records.

Good Disk IMO..........Instant gratification, Hell No!
TOOL records are like Mold (or a fine cheese if you will), it takes a while for it grab hold and grow on you. Nice comparison huh?..........:goggly:

As a musician I find them very interesting and compelling. But I can see where it may seem "Artsy" and indulgent also.

I don't know if that answered the question or not? :u-huh:

it's ok I think... I've never really been a big Tool fan

as for self-indulgent, I'm not really sure about that, I usually reserve that label for bands who feel like inserting 4 hour solos three times into every song so every band member gets their "solo spotlight" to show off their neat skills and stuff, totally irrelevant to the song

I agree with you there, maybe my use was in correct in that context?
But again, I personally really like TOOL, but I can see where people may not also?..........errrrr or something :u-huh:

I'll shut up know

I like it, nowhere near their best but it good. My only problem with it is that the "Good song - Filler noize" ratio seems to go up with every record.

dunno, I've had a love/hate relationship with Tool's music... I dig a song here or there (Aenima, Schism, Eulogy, etc.)... but the vast majority seems to be boring and uninteresting to me

the disclaimer to that is, I haven't heard all of their music... the only album I've heard in full is 10,000 Days... I need to download their other albums and listen to them

When im killing a lot of time, or i want to be left alone to stew in my thoughts, TOOL is something id put on repeatedly.

I really like them, in that its not something that is going to ever really be heard anywhere else over and over again. Listenening to them for me is a matter of personal enjoyment, basically the world slows down and time seems forgotten when i listen to them play.

I first saw them back in 1993 in support of undertow, but my older sister has seen them repeatedly, she just said maynard is way out there but give him credit becuase he gives you 120 percent in his live act.

that is the same damn problem with the latest volta record. at least tool makes it a separate track.

are you talking about their upcoming album? (can't wait to pick it up btw) Amputechture barely has any of the ambient sections you may have disliked on Frances the Mute, which had a good amount... it's not "noise" or "filler" to me, quite the opposite, but to each his own

I can't really speak for Tool in that respect though

I saw them live last year, opening for "System of a Down".
Although I like thier music, they were really boring. :erk:

I love Tools first 3 albums, and Lateralus was alright, but I really did not liek 10,000 days much. I have listened to it a few times and don't feel the need to listen to it again. It was all very uneventful to me. After listening to it there was nothing that stuck out that I coudl say "that was really cool". it was just meh.

I have trememdous respect for these guys and their music though I can honestly say bar 1 or 2 songs I just can't get into them.

I have to admit KSE's Holy Diver cover has been on permanent repeat for the last few days on my iPod. Howard Jones - what a voice that guy has! Rifftastic cover.
