Great mix CJ! But... I think the snare still needs some work. I would like to hear more dynamics. BTW, are you making money with mixing?

good god no, I wish! :) I'm looking for an internship somewhere here in FL to get me into the real grind of things. Anything I've done so far has been for friends and such for free. I'm relatively new to the audio game.. Only been doing it about a year but I'm still young (21) so I still have hopes! haha,

I agree w/the snare bit.. it's definitely not dynamic enough for my tastes either. I'll tweak some more and see what I can come up with..

Cheers!

cjwall -- killer job man, my efforts wont get me even close ....
although i use guitar suite ... :hypno:
no seriously this is excellent - done completely inthebox ?!

i need to know which plugins you used, if that aint too
much studio secrets exposed that is.
what did you put on the masterbus to get it so fekkin loud ?
aaand i forgot to ask this over at gearslutz:
how did you achieve this breathe-in sound with the vox ?

gruce, paul

maybe, but he also did this with the last mixing challenge thing,
i think its more like limiting, compression ?

Hi think that it is a lot lot of compression, too much for my taste, it pumps too much, and maybe some automation on the breaths.

I would back up the compression a bit and use more automation (just raise the breaths levels).

I'll give a shot to mix this song later.

thanks trym man! mixed totally ITB, yes. As far as what plugs I'm using.. I pretty much stick with the Sonalksis, URS and Waves stuff. URS EQ's all over the place on this mix and most of my other stuff for that matter, I love 'em!

as far as the vocals equal parts compression and automation for the 'breathing' effect. Takes some time but it's worth it.

BTW, Congrats on the Stillrise contest Eddy.

Charlie

aight, so its more to it than just firin up a plugin.
yeah i have to agree with eddy, the vocals are up front and heavy but lack
dynamics. thats just my taste, but i'll try to automate the breathing.

ill steal your studio tricks from you while youre asleep harharhar.
just kidding.

too lazy and too little time to record the guitars again, so i just trie to fix it, removed the hum (massivr ground loop i had) with eq etc, and tried to make the best out of it.

it's not the final version, but you can listen to it here.

some automation and leveling has still to be done, but feel free to complain or critizise anyway ;)

LSD

you had a ground loop issue or the raw tracks had an issue?

I have had hum issues before with another band but I thought that issue was resolved.

no, i had'em, hum almost as loud as the guitars ;)
had to improvise with the notebook and mobile interface, didn't have the possibility to put it into the same circuit as the amp.
forgot to bring enough power cords ;) my fault.

you cannot imagine how loud that ground hum can be, perhaps i'll post a file ;)

EDIT:
here it is.
No Fx, no Eq, no Compression! it's really that loud, and that times 3, that can cause some mud :Puke:

here's a pic how the amp was set up.
that's just the rehearsalroom setup. 'cause the slanted cab screams into my ears. on the recording it could use less bass and more high, i know, unfortunately monitoring situation in the room was everything but optimum ;)

I also decided to take a shot at this, cause I really like the song and I've liked Ringworm since their first demo :-).
It's not finished yet. There's still some editing todo etc etc... Mixed ITB. Guitars: Guitarsuite (didn't have a chance to re-amp :-( ). I should have let the L2 on the masterbus alone... whatever, here it is:

btw. the kick is monsterkick & fusion from D4 mixed together

Guys, How do you set drumagog with the trigger track? I use drumagog with one of my sample but, the sound isn't "constant" but there is a lot of "velocity variations", like natural kick. How should I set drumagog for constant kick drum?

hi there xes,
try adjusting the dynamic tracking in the advanced options tab of drumagog
to 0%. in reference to version 4 that is.

just imagine mr sneap gave this a try ....
i could really teenage-rave about this !
its just theory though ....
