In my opinion the best part about FNM is mike patton. God what a fucking versatile and very "out there" vocalist. Killer style and technique, totally rare.

For whatever its worth: when I first heard AD, I thought it was too "out there" as well. For a long time I didn't like it very much. That album is definitely a grower, but when you finally get it, it's worth the wait.

I also listen to King For A Day on a near-daily basis. I thought Album Of The Year kinda sucked though... does that make me weird?

Billy Gould is just as amazing as Mike Patton in his own right. Really the architect of FNM, and one of the best musicians alive IMO.
