Nightingale

I'll tell you which one not to get: The Breathing Shadow.

Definitely start with The Closing Chronicles or I. You can't go wrong with either of those. I is the slightly more accessible of the two. If you go with I, I wanna know how you react to the song Still In The Dark. :)

thanks man
well i'm gonna order whichever one(s) i get, I've already found em all, so accessibility isn't really a factor...
what the hell, I'll just get em both probably

I noticed your name, PGM...Oh yeah, Nevermore kick's some ass. I was hooked when I heard Dreaming Neon Black.

"My ONLY CURE!!! Won't you meet me!!" - gotta love that.

yeah Nevermore kicks ass, probably my favorite band, them or Opeth. DNB is my favorite album from them, I was hooked when I saw em live, I hadn't heard much from them then I saw them live and was hooked, went out and got all the albums..the rest is history as they say. seen em live twice now, both amazing shows

"My only cure!!.." yeah i love that part, so much emotion in his voice, it's songs like that that make Warrel my favorite vocalist

And thanks to everyone for their answers, I'll probably order 1 or both shortly

I have all three Nightwish cds (along with Swano's solo cd which is incredible) but only listen to either "i" or "breathing shadow". I have not listened to "closing chronicle" since I got it, I didn't like it at all. I thought it was dull and uninteresting.

Well, all these recomendations for "closing chronicle" got me thinking, so I gave it another listen today.:goggly: I don't know what i was thinking but this cd is great! Thanks for the nudge everyone.

By the way, (speaking of Swano) what is the Edge of Sanity cd that you are most likely to pull out and listen to? Mine is "the spectral sorrows", maybe I just burnt out on "purgatory afterglow".

Oh, one more Swano related note. Anyone ever heard any of the Unicorn stuff?? How is it?

"Eternal Eclipse" is a really cool track too. What tracks have you heard, Demonspell? "Revival" and "Steal the Moon" are amoungst my favourite songs ever... and thre more epic, proggy "Thoughts from a Stolen Soul" is just fantastic.

I ordered both Unicorn CD's directly from Dan the man himself. They're both very soft, there is exactly 0% metal on them. Apparently, it's something like early Genesis, but I'm not really familiar with what that is.

Anyways, I really like them. The first one ("Ever Since") is overall quite good, and has some great compositions that are actually almost... (ugh... this is so hard to say) spoiled by... (ughhh) poor vocal performances by Swano. (gasp). Damn, that was hard. Anyways, I don't really have an ear for precise pitch and the understanding of music necessary, but I'm fairly confident he goes pretty off-key on a couple tracks. They just sound... wrong. I dunno.

The second album, ("Emotional Wasteland") is utterly fantastic. I love it. Very moody, somber, quite different from Dan's other stuff, yet still bearing his defining touches. A couple of the more upbeat tracks are kind of "The Closing Chronicles"ish.

On the whole, for when I'm in just the right mood, they're just perfect.

If anyone is really really interested, send me a PM and I can arrange to send you a couple MP3's.

Oh yeah.

PGM - I'd say "Closing Chronicles" or "I" as well. Maybe "I" simply because the first track, "Scarred for Life" is quintessential Swano -it's a good song to definte the Nightingale sound. Breathing Shadow is also really cool but quite different - it's very much goth-rocky. I like them all almost equally, I must say, although TCC is kinda special.

Oh, and all three records together form a concept (something I always thought was really neat), and the lyrics for all 3 are all in the "I" booklet, which although the 3rd released is the first installment story-wise.

Stolen Soul, Steal The Moon, Alive Again, and Deep Inside Of Nowhere...along with the whole of the Breathing Shadow and a few from I, including Revival. And three EOS albums, Moontower, and some PTM mp3s...and his contributions to Theli and Tonight's Decision.
