OK - Regarding bands that I did not have a clue about:

After lots and lots of quality discussion on the forum, I went and ordered the following from Amazon:

Budgie - the best of
Diamond Head - the best of
Dio - the collection
Scorpians - classic bites

I received the CDs yesterday and hope to have a decent listen this weekend.

Although, I have to admit, the Budgie album has immediately grabbed me!!

Musically, it should be a very interesting weekend for you then Nightwar.......

Looks like you're going to get totally ROCKED this weekend Nightwar - which is goood!!! Glad you like the Budgie, I think they're amazing. I have Best of Budgie but I think there's a few of those CDs around, not sure if Guts and Panzer Division Destroyed are on your CD, but if not, download them cos they are their best songs. Budgie were quite big at one point during the early 80s and then I'm not sure what happened, but they didn't end up getting the fame that they so rightly deserve. I think they're totally amazing and ultra superb live, you should defnitely check them out Nightwar in September if they're playing near you.

What did you think of Diamond Head - one of my fav bands so I am biased - it might take 2 or 3 listens, but I bet you'll get heavily into them - definitely one of the best NWOBHM bands of all time. Sucking my Love, The Prince, Shoot out the Lights, Am I Evil (Valanx song lol), It's Electric, Sweet n Innocent, Lightening to the Nations hells bells they are all totally rockin, not one duff song on that CD. In fact I is going to stick it on right noo.

Valanx - I have a suspicion you are correcto-mundo, Mate! It is definately going to be an interesting time for me!

Your Royal Highness - Well, I reckon you should be requesting some form of commision!! I cannot really say what I think about the other CDs yet, as I have been playing the Budgie album during that drive back and forth from work for the last couple of days! In other words, I will be buying the entire CD collection soon!
My compilation does not have 'Panzer Division' or 'Guts' on it, but I'm quite happy with the current experience of listening to 'BreadFan', 'Napoleon Bona Part I&II' etc. There really is some great stuff on there that I have never come across - 'I ain't no mountain' being a lovely poppy rock tune!!
Budgie remind me of a kind of Fun-Rush, if that makes sense? There is definately a 70's Rush feel in there!
Also, the singer has a great voice! I can see that the voice would not attract the main-stream, but like Geddy Lee there is something special about it!
All I can say is, thanks to everyone that has provided me with other avenues of music to explore. I'm having a great time at the moment!

On top of all that, I just bought the recent 'Deep Purple' compilation on my way back from work!
It's gonna be a good weekend!!!

It's taken awhile for me to get through the 80's style production, but Diamond Head have grown on me. There is some good material there, and a decent sense of humour, They kind of remind me of an English version of BOC, which is a very cool thing!

'Sucking My Love', indeed....!! Classic song! Great riffs, but what a title!

It was interesting to read that Diamond Head spear-headed the concept of bands promoting and selling their own music at gigs and by mail order.
btw - their first album was recorded in Kidderminster. This is just down the road from me - in fact it's only a few miles away from where my band recorded!

To be honest that was the thing that put me off them, and the fact that i didnt like any of the songs!

........Except for "Am i Evil" .......But only because its a good song to fook to !

lol

LOL!!

To be honest, I think that quite a few of Diamond Head's songs are great in a catchy 80's way! I've had a few DH tracks going abround in my head for a couple of days now!

The production on most tracks do suck, however. I'm sure a 'remastered' best of compilation should be thought about.
Although you can't blame everthing on the production - there's the drummer to consider! His drum sound may have been feeble, but his playing is not at all inspiring - it kind of brought back horrific memories of Nigel Durham, if you know what I mean?!!
Just plain boring!!

All these things aside, 'Am I Evil?' (Valanx's Theme Tune!) and 'Sucking My Love' are pretty classic Metal tracks.

Regarding the Scorpions - well, I'm really starting to enjoy their stuff now!! Apart from that bloody whistling 'Wind' song, of course!!

Oh Valanx you are skating on thin ice my friend, you're forever slagging off one of my fav bands. Is Am I Evil a good song to fook too. You know I don't think I ever have fooked to that song. Need to make a mental note that when I get a new boyfriend that will be the very first song we fook to, or make lurve too I should say.

And talking of Diamond Head, I have just heard the most tragic news this morning. Was listening to DH at breakfast and just thought I'd check their site to see if they're playing any dates in Glasgow before I head down to London to see them on 4th Nov. Holy hell I wish I hadn't bothered now cos you have got no idea how ultra upset I am right now. Feel like roarin and greetin, trashing my house and then getting in my car and driving straight into the nearest brick wall at 100 miles per hour!!

And why do I feel like this - checked their site and couldn't believe it when I saw they're playing KING TUT'S WAH WAH HUT ON 4TH JULY. One of my fav bands playing in my fav venue. Shit but then I realised I'm on holiday that week so I am so totally gutted than I'll miss them. I love a shed load of NWOBHM bands DH are my fav and to see them somewhere like King Tuts is mindblowing cos its the most awesome venue ever (apart from Apollo), superb atmosphere there and just a wee tiny place, only holds about 200. Honestly to say I'm f*ckin gutted is a huge understatement, I actually feel physically sick now. I am the princess of nwobhm after all, I should be there showing off that jacket with the 3 DH patches on back and 1 above my heart. Sorry I need to go and be sick now, seriously!!!

Diamond Head will be playing at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow on Tuesday the 5th July,
Tickets are £8 (adv) and are on sale now from King Tuts Bar/ Box Office 0141 221 5279. Doors 8:30 show finish Approx 11:15

I'm glad you're finally getting into your Diamond Head Nightwar - I loved them as soon as I first heard them, I think they're absolutely totally awesome. I always quite liked Sucking My Love but it was never one of my favs just until the last month or two when I suddenly realised what an absolute masterpiece it is. I adore Sweet n Innocent, I've got that on single but I can't remember if I bought that one at the gig or not, its on Media Records label, and the one I definitely bought at the gig was the single Shoot out the Lights and the album Lightning to the Nations both on Happy Face label. It's Electric, The Prince and Lightening to the Nations are awesome songs.

The Scorpions are amazing as well. They've got so many excellent songs, my favs being The Zoo, Rock you like a Hurricane and Polar Nights. I've got Polar Nights on the live double Tokyo Tapes album (though it's not Klaus singing on that one), you should maybe try and get your hands on that one Nightwar, its superb. Pictured Life, In Trance, Fly to the Rainbow, We'll Burn The Sky (woohoo brill),In Search of the Peace of Mind, Suspender Love and She's A Woman He's A Man. Every song's a cracker on that album but they didn't do any from it at their recent concert which was a wee bit disappointing.

Well yeah.......Im Evil remember!

Tell you what i will do, i will go and download some DH albums and burn them to use as drinks coasters. That way i will be breakin' the law, commiting piracy and providing worthless drinks coasters instead of buying some.

THUS: cancelling out Nightwars recent DH purchase and putting some poor drinks coaster maker out of a job in one fell swoop.

*Evil laughs*

*** Valanx in no way condones music piracy (unless its eminem or some shit!) especially for bands like Diamond Head, those guys need all the record sales they can get!!
