Nocturnal Rites

I saw them at powerfest, i had wanted to see them from the time i bought their first disc in 95. I was not disappointed!! They kicked ass!!:flame:

I don't think they have played a show in a couple of years. They also haven't found a replacement guitarist yet so who knows what the setlist would be like. Supposable they are going to have a new CD out this fall so I'm assuming they play stuff from there. When I seen them as PowerFest they played a good mixture of songs from all their albums, if I remember correctly.

I've been wondering myself what they will play. So here's my guess... heavy on the last 2-3 albums. They may go back to the Afterlife album (I hope), but I seriously doubt they will play anything before Jonny was the singer.

Here was their PowerFest setlist.

Fools Never Die
Never Trust
Shadowland
Deliverance
Awakening
Iron Force
When Fire Comes To Ice
The Flame Will Never Die
Avalon
Still Alive
Against The World
New World Messiah
Cuts Like A Knife

The only band on this year's lineup I have no desire to see. Everyone raves about them, but for some reason I just can't get into them. I've tried time and time again but just don't get it. That's fine though, as there usually is one or two of those every year for me. As long as they're popular with the majority that's what matters. haha.

That's cool you don't like them...but do yourself a favor and at least watch them. I'm not saying they are the best power metal band, but they are the best power metal band I have seen live. Their harmonies are the best I have ever heard live (for a metal band).

Nocturnal Rites are the band I'm anticipating the most. I've been into them since the beginning and have been requesting them for years at Prog Power. I fully expect them to steal the show!

I will confess my favorite material was with their first singer. Check out 'Tales of Mystery and Imagination' and 'The Sacred Talisman'-- great albums. With their current singer, my favorite is still the first with him, 'Afterlife'. I remember getting that CD and being shocked that the only difference in the band was the singer, because the band sounded a lot different!

I probably will...or at least I'll probably give them 3 songs worth before I decide to stick around or leave. There have been a handful of bands picked in the past I didn't care for, but then after seeing them live it clicked. Saint Deamon did that to me at IX.

Same here. Loved them when they had their first singer. The first album after he left was a shock to the system. I thought it was too much of a departure from their sound. I think they dialed it back some in subsequent albums. I may have to check some of their newer stuff. I still wonder what happened to the first singer. Thought he was very good and he just disappeared.

Excellent band, and phenomenal live! I'd expect them to play lots from their recent discs, as they don't generally touch a lot of their old material. I would recommend for you to get Grand Illusion and The 8th Sin immediately, as these would sum up their current direction nicely.

Good to see the props going out to the early stuff. I love those first 3 albums, especially the first one (In a Time of Blood & Fire) and the 3rd one Sacred Talisman. I still listen to them at least 2-3x every 6 months. I like everything after that too. Hopefully they can fill Nils shoes, he was a truly amazing player and I find it hard to believe that anyone they can find will be able to do so, but we'll see I guess.

I honestly could give a shit less if they play nothing from the first 3 discs and stick to New World Messiah forward and this is coming from their sponsor, rofl

Interesting to hear so many praises for the 8th Sin. I could NEVER get into that album.
Way too slick and pop sounding for me.

I too saw their Powerfest performance, and agree that it was possibly the greatest power metal performance I have ever seen. HammerFall should definitely watch their set!
