Norther's New Endorsement

Not always. I'd have to force the modem to rescan the cable frequencies for the ISP to assign me a new IP address and that usually takes a while.
what's your connection method? Plain Cable modem?
Never used that.

Plain cable modem connected to my router/gateway which then serves my home NAT network.

funny cause with my adsl just flashing the modem on and off usually resets the connection and IP. I used to soft-connect disconnect but then I got myself a LAN to share the connection

It's different with cable because it's a shared pipeline for each area.

It's good to hear cause I was considering trading my adsl for cable when it gets available where I live, for higher speeds and lower prices
Don't. With DSL you usually have a dedicated line all the way from your home up to the first ISP node. With cable you have a SHARED pipeline for your street/area. It might be a good option if you live in a deserted area where no one else has cable, but it FUCKING sucks if you live in a slightly more populated area.

Yeah, quite so. He also has a really smart nickname -- necropriest. I registered as necrobishop but he banned me 2 minutes later. :loco:
