Grammar school here in the UK is a kind of secondary school (11-16 years old). It has an entrance exam called the 11+, so tends to have the brighter kids. They've been kind of phased out over the last 30 years, but there are still quite a few around. I think people have realised the folly of mixed ability classes that were touted by the left-wing PC brigade in the 60s and 70s.
