i'm thinking of getting a Rode NTG-2 for recording audio for interviews and things but i wonder how it compares to a LDC, i mean does it have a more closed pick up pattern and higher clean output meaning i can get cleaner audio from a high distance compared to a traditional LDC? people who have used these kind of microphones enlighten me!

edit: recorder will be a ZOOM H4 something.

Any shotgun is going to have a much more directional pattern than a traditional ldc but be unusable at closer than a foot BC of the proximity effect. It will certainly improve isolation but "high distance" is subjective. I'd probably aim for a within a meter for interviews.
Any LDC is going to have too much handling noise to be viable for handheld application. Frankly, for an off camera interview a good old handheld is still a great option.

people tend to forget theyre holding a microphone so they move it too much or turn it away. "high distance" will be 2-3 meters much. does it worth spending 160€ on the ntg-2 or 1?
