I installed a firewall over the weekend, and I want to puke when I read my violation log. I have several attacks blocked a day and I find it creepy that that much was going on before I installed the firewall. I went to print out my violation log, but I had to cancel after 13 pages when I saw the number was 456 and counting. It's disturbing. Isn't there anything better to do than bother people and plant viruses and shit? Go outside. Rent a movie. Get laid. SOMETHING. :mad:

Do you use any file-sharing programs, like Kazaa, etc? If so, if one of the files you were sharing had come up in someone else's search, it will check to see if you are connected on subsequent searches for similar items, so that may be where a lot of the hits are coming from, so in that case, it isn't a hacker, and is probably low risk.

I know that if I've recently downloaded a popular movie (ie. like when I had Episode II the week after it hit theaters), everytime I log on to Kazaa, for the next few days my firewall log (with a capacity of 500 messages) fills to the max in a matter of hours. If I don't log on to Kazaa for a week or so, it may take a couple days to register a dozen messages.

Also, depending on if you log onto another proxy server (ie. say you have a hook-up through a University account), the system may ping your computer every couple of minutes to confirm that you're still logged in.

That being said, a firewall is a good idea, even if 99.9% of the hits are not dangerous. For anyone that doesn't have a firewall, a good freeware program can be downloaded for free at http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp

I understand %100 what your saying, and I've got a story for you that you'll love. When I was at computer school (about three years ago), I had to go to class with several dudes(and even a girl) that fit the description you just gave brat and man did I ever clash with those fucks! The only thing that matters to them is gigabyte size, hard drive, video card, etc....... I myself knew nothing of computers at the time(which was why I was in school) but I did go and get myself a kinda ok computer just so I can do my homework at home and start the learning process. One of the students there(I never found out which one) kinda made fun of me on side(my computer skills) and they must have been laughing it up with another one of their PC/Geek friends cause they started a chat with me and sent me a nuke program! Needles to say, I didn't even know who to reinstall Windows at the time so it was a big pain in the ass. A couple of months after this happened I overheard one of the geeks talking about it at school, and ofcourse, I went off in typical AugDawg/Heavy Metal style with "What, I fucking kill you, you tell me right fucking now who sent that fucking program, cause I got a nuke program for them too!" Anyhow, ofcourse the instructor didn't know what to do so he kicked me out of the class for the day but later he talked with me and got my side of the story but the damm geeks denied it ofcourse. The moral of the story, not all PC/Geeks are like this, I've known several of them that I became the best of friends with but for sure, PC's are the type of hoppy that can lobby people with no self esteem and with no real purpose or being. When people like this become knowledgeable with a PC/Mac whatever, it's like giving Hitler a Warhead!

But hey Brat, look at the bright side! You've got the bastards blocked now, so no more worries.

I had Kazaa for like a minute. All of the files I downloaded to install it were infected, so I deleted them all. I never logged on to use it. I have used Winmx on occasion, but I've blocked my files, so technically I'm not "file sharing" at all. But I haven't even used that since I've used the firewall.

The reason that I checked my violation log in the first place was that I got two messages saying that it intercepted port scan attacks. Attack is not a friendly word, to my knowledge. I suppose I'm being a bit paranoid, but when I was gone for a month, it was because of a virus, and I had to reinstall Windows and lost everything. Just the concept of hacking pisses me off.

My brother-in-law enjoys hacking (and no, I haven't ruled him out) and when I asked him why, he said "Cause I can." I can cut his fucking brake lines too, but do I do it??? NO.

And for those that I blocked on msn, it's nothing personal. Against you, anyway. I'm dealing with something else entirely, that may or may not be related to this bullshit.
 
Hackers and virus makers can't get laid. Making viruses and hacking is like sex to them. Once they find that shy nerdy girl of their dreams, they'll stop. :lol:

When he worked for Coors though, he would have to do promos during the week, and I was working nights. The first one he had after we were together, he actually called me drunk from the bar, and gave me this crap about how he was thinking about me the whole time. Luckily for him I wasn't dumb enough to fall for it. Then he called me five minutes later to tell me a stripper scratched his neck during a lap dance.
