Which is Phil's best band? I know Pantera is the original, but I myself would have to go with Down. I much prefer his voice when he sings instead of screams, making Down the best, Pantera next, followed by SR, which is almost exclusive screaming...like the music but I can only take so much of his voice.

Pantera is almost like a middle ground between the two. In some cases, Phil's screaming voice is okay, but an album full of it is too much. Pantera keeps it tolerable by mixing in some singing songs with some screaming songs...I like Down the best because it's mostly singing, closer to ealier Pantera than their last couple of albums.

Speaking of Down, I actually heard Down on the radio the other night. I don't remember which night exactly, but it was over the weekend, and of course late at night, but hey, it's better than nothing. My mouth dropped open at the thought of them taking a break from Staind, but I guess these things happen. Maybe radio can stop sucking after all.

bRaT-
I think they were on the radio because they are on Ozzfest. See how that works?:(

I want to hear Superjoint Ritual. I like angry music because it fucking ROCKS!

True, but my radio station is just a bit gay in that they will say "Here's some concert-psychin' rock" before they play any band that will be coming sometime within the next six months, and they didn't do that this time. Maybe they meant it. I said maybe. But you could be right too. :)

phil's voice is just so killer in pantera there is no competition, although i must say its cool to hear him sing in other styles.
how can u go past the ferocious vocals on far beyond driven which i reckon is his best vocal performance hands down, even when pantera toured here last year he really took the vocal style of fbd for nearly all the songs even the newer ones!!!

Don't forget Anselmo's fourth band, NECROPHAGIA, in which he plays guitar under a different name. I'm not much of a Pantera fan, but I do enjoy "Cowboys From Hell" and "Vulgar Display of Power." Down's okay and I haven't heard Superjoint. Necro sucks in my opinion. Adios!

"Beautifully Depressed" has been getting a pretty substantial amount of airplay. That's what being on a major and having something that is radio friendly will get you. The last Pantera didn't have that "token" single, so it didn't really garner much airplay from radio, but Far Beyond Driven got airplay w/ "Planet Caravan" and The Great Southern Trendkill got play out of "Suicide Note Pt. 2," "Floods," and even "Drag the Waters."

The only Pantera I hear on the radio here is "Cemetary Gates" several times a day, an occasional "Cowboys From Hell" and only by request, "Planet Caravan." I heard "Walk" once or twice, but that's rare. The Down they played was "Ghosts of Mississippi" or something like that (so sue me, I don't own any Down yet).

"Ghosts Along the Mississippi"!
Geez bRaT, get it right.
Just kidding. :)
I seriously think Down's airplay has something to do with $haron O$bourne...and/or who ever decided Down was "good enough" for Ozzfest. If it's on Ozzfest, it's on the air..:(

He played guitar under the name Anton Crowley in Necrophagia but he's not with them any more, he's not in viking crown anymore from what I hear. Pantera will always be the ultimate Phil band, they're the Kings of Metal. Followed by Down, then Superjoint.

I think PANTERA is his best band while VIKING CROWN is the worst.

At least someone mentioned this piece of shit... Viking Crown really sucks dead donkey balls.
