While the 2004 tour wasn't exactly Ed's greatest moment, I've heard that he can still play just as good as ever. Andre from www.eddievanhalen.com was at the Sacred Sin release party. Ed was showing videos of him, Al and Wolfgang jamming, and Andre said Eddie sounded amazing! He's not the only one who's said so.
I understand what makes you say so because Ed hasn't really given many reasons for the general public to believe that he still has "it". We're gonna have to wait and see. I just hope they don't tour as Van Halen without Michael Anthony.
eddie van halen is one of the reasons i picked up the guitar when i was a kid but, he hasn't really done anything to push the envelope in a long time. that along with the fact that he seems to suffer from "headupmyass" syndrome over the past 5 years or so makes me doubt he could pull off another tour right now. i'd love to have him prove me wrong though.

I agree that it's good he's admitted he needs help and is getting it. The question is, how much of the damage he's done in terms of relationships in the band will be beyond salvage.

I think if he gets healthy, they will tour with Roth. If Roth was close to touring with him drunk, he will certainly agree to tour with him sober! Too much money to be made to say no if Eddie's healthy!
I just hope that once EVH is clean, he will see what a mistake it would have been to tour without Michael Anthony!

It has Paul Shaffer; EVH is in rehab again, and God knows where the other Van Halen is, and the only two people there are the only two who aren't going on the tour. Do you really want to see it?

Yeah. I tivo'd it. I couldn't bear to watch their performance as huge a VH fan I am. Both DLR and Hagar versions.
It would be like watching Anthrax getting inducted into the metal hall of fame with Bello and Bush doing Only with some house band without Ian and Benante.
Hmmm Anthrax and Van Halen in similar situations. Both bands had multiple singers with fans constantly disputing over who's a better fit for the band. Both bands also currently seem to not be able to resolve issues with any singer as to either tour or record an album.
