obama puts the heat on mcpain

At least in Massachusetts you can now legally carry around a bit of maryjane. At least Ron Paul was reelected. At least third parties increased their vote talies compared to 2004. Some of the few victories for liberty. =/

A sad day. A day no more cheerful if McCain had been elected. But sad nonetheless. It was a long and sad campaign though. The campaigns weren't about important issues. The key issues that Obama will face once elected were virtually undiscussed throughout the months. Very sad. Maybe Americans will one day stop being sycophants and sheep. Maybe they'll wake up and start reading a newspaper, start learning about the world around them, learn about economics, learn about history, just learn. But I'm doubting it. They are too busy.

I've thought about that a lot and I don't really agree. I do completely agree that she is unqualified, and an all-around idiot. However, I think a majority of the people who share that opinion are people who probably wouldn't have voted for McCain regardless of the running mate. McCain's chances weren't good to begin with and the move to Palin reeked of desperation and to some extent it did work. The people who love Palin really love her, which is the what the Republications wanted. I think McCain did more to ruin his own chances than anyone else did.

The Republican party is in complete disarray. McCain didn't win the election because the Republican party already lost it years ago. The Republican party didn't do anything while it had power. It has no agenda, no platform. Sure it has one on their web site. But its not accepted by its members. No, it rejects those who fight for limited government, reduced federal spending, among other things. It rejects them, while still demanding their vote. It argues for US to withdraw from unnecessary foreign conflicts, and then enters them. It argues for reduced federal corporations, and then increases them. Its a joke. It needs to be destroyed and then rebuilt. Hopefully this election does that.

I think that either way we are screwed, as always, but how can we ever tell if somebody is going to be a good president, until they have run their course. It is like trying a new restaurant, could be he best food you have ever eaten, could be mediocre, or it could give you food poisoning, but you won't know unil you experience it. We live in a country where nobody will ever be truly happy with how everything is going. I know I need to be more into politics and governmental issues, but I just go to work and worry about making my family and myself happy, not really worrying about the rest of society, because if I can take care of myself, so should others. If I have to pay more taxes, so be it, I don't want to, but I will make the difference up somehow. I just go with the flow and make things work for me as needed.

 Well, what's done is done, so now we wait and see. Like I've said in previous posts, my guy didn't even make it past the primary elections. Truly, this election was unqualified person #1 vs. unqualified person #2 in my eyes. I'm a 100% conservative through and through, so neither of these two guys fit my bill to begin with. (shrugs)

By the way, I totally agree with what John said above, so I'll add a little to that. These guys are career politicians, not saviours. Never and I mean never put all of your trust in a human being!

I'm just patiently waiting to see BOTH republicans and democrats eat their words. I seriously doubt that Obama is going to "ruin this country," but at the same time I do not see him being the great savior that many Democrats are hailing him to be. He's a man, not a god or a devil. He will make mistakes, but I believe he will do some excellent things, too. Right now, people are just overreacting, caught up in the joy or despair, depending on who they supported.

They should rename the USA the USSA - the United Socialist States of America - because that's what it will become.

Be careful what you wish for... because you may get it - and the side effects as well.

Looks like too many people drank the Obama Kool-Aid. :erk:

So now I'll be out of a job in about a year or so.... ugh.

I am guessing you dont pay attention to anything Obama or the Dems have said or have done in the past? Trust me when I say you are far better off with Obama in office than McCain. Go back and look at the facts and differences between lets just say employment % when Clinton was in Office as compared to Bush..It cant get worse than it is right now, it can only get better....

Perhaps you are right... however, I don't think she helped him at all, and he needed a little help. On the flipside of what you said, I don't think her choice swayed anybody who wouldn't have voted for him. I think it did turn off some of the moderates who were undecided, though, based on what I hear here at work.

I think most people are going to vote Democrat or Republican, period, regardless of who's running, and THAT is scary any way you look at it.

Isn't "spreading the wealth" the same as paying taxes?

Yeah, we've been living in a "socialist" country for a long time. They keep using that word. I do not think it means what they think it means.

That said, I'm a bigger socialist than Obama by a long shot.

Time will tell, but regardless of what happens, you will find people who will still believe what they want to believe. The 'good' things will be all Obama and the Dems and the 'bad' things will not be his or their fault; or the 'good' things will be "leftovers" from the Bush administration or something and every remotely 'bad' thing will be directly attributable to Obama himself. The truth will likely be somewhere in the middle, as Orbweaver basically already said.

Isn't "spreading the wealth" the same as paying taxes?

Obama wants to gouge the upper class (more than they already are) for no other reason than that they have more money. If he really wanted to help the poor and middle-class, he would reduce government spending by slicing off large, malignant programs (which is what most of the government is anyway, but that's a whole different debate), and give THAT money to the poor. Instead, he will deter people from wanting to be financially prosperous on their own.

Yeah, we've been living in a "socialist" country for a long time. They keep using that word. I do not think it means what they think it means.

Obama wants to socialize the wealth in this country by taking more of it from those who EARN more of it, and distributing it as the government sees fit.

Obama wants to socialize health care, by having tax money pay for it.

Obama wants to socialize the education system even more than it already is.

If socializing things isn't socialism, then what does the word mean?

Thought this was cool...
Put into a example we can all understand.

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers, he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?' They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.!

And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant the men began to compare their savings.

I only got a dollar out of the $20, declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man, but he got $10!

Yeah, that's right, exclaimed the fifth man. I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!

That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!

Wait a minute, yelled the first four men in unison. We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!

The nine men surrounded the tenth and kicked him out of the club.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

Now this is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

same goes for most political arguments in forums.

and DAMN I was so sure Barr was gonna get this one. :loco:

Obama wants to socialize the wealth in this country by taking more of it from those who EARN more of it, and distributing it as the government sees fit.

Yah, those CEO's of failed banks definitely EARNED it. ESPECIALLY AIG reps.

Obama wants to socialize health care, by having tax money pay for it.

Private health care is awfully broken. Also, you're wrong. He wants to allow people to buy into Government issued Health Care. Private Health Care will still be available. kkthx misinformed.

Obama wants to socialize the education system even more than it already is.

Because Bush's No Child Left Behind act was so brilliant. And kids are so smart now adays, and teachers are so well paid. And college tuition is so affordable. Jesus Barack, keep your hands off what doesn't need fixing! Especially when public schools are already funded by taxes and provided by the governement!

If socializing things isn't socialism, then what does the word mean?

I don't understand why Socialism is such a dirty word all of the sudden. If anything, I'm entirely sick of the private sector fucking everything up for their own personal greed and to the utter dismay and destruction of Main Street. I would rather put my faith into my elected political heros running the show vs. someone who is only concerned with maximizing profits. Because it's clear SOMEONE is always going to be in charge.

And again, if you're so anti-socialist, you should be happy Obama wants to cut taxes for 95% of the country. Frankly, as I've said, the rich will always not play fair and will find ways to make tax evasion an art form. They always have, and they always will, much to the dismay of those of us who can't afford it.

Taking $500 from someone who makes $300,000 a year vs someone who makes $30,000 a year seems justified to me. Or do you think that Single Mom working Double Overtime at the Checkout to feed her 2 childeren after her Husband died in Iraq should have to pay a rediculious amount of tax to "keep things fair"?

I'm sure Obama will lift the ban on partial birth abortions. So, now the slaughter of our unborn children will resume in full force again. I don't care who flames me, insults me, or calls me whatever they wish to call me. NO ONE has the right to murder another human being either born or not yet born. We don't hear any screams or see the victims on TV lying in the streets so the plight of the unborn goes underneath the radar. See how an abortion is performed and how these shredded babies are thrown into the trash like garbage afterward. This is what this man Obama believes should happen. I cannot think that sooner rather than later, mankind is going to pay bigtime for these crimes.

If socializing things isn't socialism, then what does the word mean?

My only point was simply that a few left-leaning, or even socialist, policies or ideals does not make one a socialist, any more than a few "socialist" policies makes this a socialist country.

I'm not getting into an argument about it. Like I said, I freely admit I AM a bit of a socialist, so obviously, I have no problem with policies that approach socialism.

So tell me what you do to stop the slaughter of children who are born to exceptionally unfit parents that starve, beat, neglect, abuse, and then murder them? Or do they not count once they're out of the womb?

(well hey, if you're gonna bang the drum of emotional rhetoric...)

First of all, I hate any harm coming to children or anyone else for that matter. Please stop trying to use circular logic on me.
