Just recently I have REdiscovered Obituary. It brought back some good memories. I forgot how fun listening to them is. Does anybody else think that John Tardy has the most original growls (if you can call them that) in death metal? Well, I just wanted to see if anybody else likes them, cause they are not really techinacal or complex, but there is something about them that I can't resist.

well, I have 'the end complete' and it does something for me, brings back memories. Hmm, maybe I'll put them on again.
I also have some Carcass that do the same thing.

I have Back from the Dead and Slowly We Rot. I agree that his vocals are original...but they are also awful. I can't stand listening to him. There are a couple of songs I can tolerate his voice in, like the song Slowly We Rot. The only one I can think of whose voice even comes close to as bad as his is Chuck Schuldiner, but I'm starting to like his voice. The music isn't anything special either. I don't really see anything about this band to make them anymore noteworthy than bands like Internal Bleeding or Mortician. I also thoroughly disliked the trendy rap/metal thing they did on Back from the Dead. Even Fear Factory and Six Feet Under are jumping on the bandwagon.

Cause of Death rules. James Murphy is without a doubt my favorite pure metal guitarist, and he shreds a blue streak on that album. Besides, it features the second best 'Circle of the Tyrants' cover ever, next to Opeth of course.

Don't dare to insult Chuck...

Indeed! Don't fuck with the Chuck!! :heh:

Sometimes you just have to grow used to vocals, but because they're sometimes so distinct,
it becomes the , how shall I say, maybe the trademark of that band. Death can never be the same
without the voice of Chuck, the same for Obituary, Carcass, Orphanage, Gorefest, ...
(the only voice I will NEVER get used to is James Labrie brrrrr )
