After reading through Ted's Thinkabowdit#4 replies I kept on thinking how I used to spend a crapload of 20 cents (that's what they worked on 'round here) on these machines.
My favourites was, first of all "Elevator Action", I could almost go back to the first building with one coin. Games like "Golden Axe" and "Double Dragon" I used to play right through with one credit.
Other favourites included "Streetfighter" and "Mortal Combat", hell I still remember some of the fatality moves on these ones. My mom used to get very upset when she send me to the shop and I only return like an hour later, good times.
I really don't see these games around anymore, they used to be everywhere at one stage some 10 - 20 years ago, so let’s hear some of your fav's then.

We call 'em quarters around here and I used drop loads of 'em on Asteroids, Missle Command, Donkey Kong and Batttlezone! Its amazing to think this kind of entertainment has evolved to my current favorite "video" game DOOM 3!

I even frequently played a KISS pinball machine at my local bowling alley!

I remember the days the first coin ups appeared... Still love Galaxians and of course .. PACKMAN

Did you have Donkey Kong as an arcade game? I used to have this double screen battery operated Donkey Kong game, played that alot as well.

I hadn't played an arcade game (in an arcade) in eons. Besides pinballs (my all-time favorite), I can name Quartet a Sega game that was hellish funny and another called Pigskin which was like rugby with vikings, funniest game ever. Always wanted to find it for PC.

I want to get a vintage Pac Man arcade game for the basement... those things are pricey though! There's a big market for them.

If you go to an arcade nowadays, everything's $1.00 to play... too rich for my blood.

I loved all the old school arcade games too many to say. Well I loved the Terminator
game, Space Invaders, Asteroids, Wizard Of War, Guantlet and so on! I have the
Namcomuseum Video game for my game cube along with Pinball Hall Of Fame that
features old-school Gottlieb pinball machine and all those games are the x-box and
ps2 as well. Hey Swine did you pick that game up yet cause I have some pretty cool
codes!

Need to correct myselve here..Wasn't Galaxians I liked that much but also Galaga !!! :loco:
A few weeks ago I installed a steering wheel on a neighbours PS2 and played a ralley game whole night...Need to save up for the PS3 I think to do some racing..pretty realistic stuff compared to my old "pong" game !!

My earliest memories of arcade games are of pinball machines (which are still my favorite), and the mechanical non-video type games....mostly shooting and racing games. Then Pong, Space Invaders and all of those games from that area that all of the sudden burst onto the scene. If you've ever watched the original movie of Dawn of the Dead, pay attention to the games they're playing in the arcade when they're living in the shopping mall.
When the video craze got into full swing my favorites were Pac-Man, Crazy Climber, Donkey Kong, Stargate, Tron, Gauntlet, and Gorf. In fact I still love these games and have most of them and many others on classic game systems.
If I was filthy rich I'd have a huge room full of classic machines.

Hmm which takes to the fact of the best pinball you have played:

Xenon
Time Warp
Genie
Gorgar
Hulk

I used to play the shit out of an old one called Skylab. There was an extremely cool one about 15 - 20 years ago that was triple leveled. I think it was a haunted house theme. It featured an "upstairs", main level and a basement from which the flippers where facing away and down from you, which made for a very weird perspective.
There was another called F-16 Tomcat, I think, with all sorts of rails, jumps, multi-ball action, bright as hell lights, ect. That one was awesome as well.

Vern do you have an x-box, Ps2 or gamecube because Genie is one of the games that's featured in The Pinball Hall Of Fame-The Gottlieb Collection game along with
Victory, Teed-Off, Central Park, Big Shot, Black Hole, Ace's High and there are codes
in that game you can unlock Xolten-a fortune telling machine, Love Meter and a old
1930's style pinball machine with no flippers called PlayBoy. This game is one the
best games I ever played for a video game!

Bubble Bobble sounds very familiar, I think that was almost like Snow Bros, right? Did you have Streetfighter or Golden Axe like games that side of the pond?
