Off topic: Miyazaki movies

Well, Miyazaki does that with a lot of his work. Nausicaa was based off a tale he read in 1001 Tales of Japanese Mythology (or something that sounds similar) about a princess, Nausicaa, with a fondness for insects that preceded her fondness for society. But that doesn't make it any less good or imaginative.

Anyway, I'm not really arguing... just bringing that up.

Exactly, We all know where Mike Romeo got his ideas for V but we don't call it a ripoff.
One of my reasons to why Kiki's is my fav is the story is simple and pure, and anyone can relate to it's theme of growing up and finding your place in the world. There are no giant robots, no cat girl androids (hmm maybe there should be), hell no villian out to rule the world in this movie. and when Kiki gets depressed she doesn't burst out in song about it :)

One of the reoccuring motifs about Miyazaki is flight, he's an aviation buff. Almost all his movies have flying in some form or another, love his over the top designs of planes in Castle in the Sky.

For some reason my wife hates that one. I can't figure it out, and she won't ever elaborate. Maybe she had a band experience with little girl witch delivery services when she was a kid or something.

I still think it needed a cat bus.
Every movie needs a cat bus.

Like emo bands do...:ill:

My sister-in-law actually sent us new copies of Naushika (English: Nausicaa???) and Kiki the other day. The only down side is that now the kids will be watching those all day, and they'll scream if I try to watch baseball...

I completely agree about Kiki, it's everything that Disney strives for and fails horribly at. It gives me the same feeling that C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia does. Makes you almost feel like a kid again. Miyazaki is a true genius of human emotion and understanding. And another of his trademarks is clearly nature and specifically animals, moreso than any other writer in the anime industry.

And Hyoukinmono, yes, Naushika is Nausicäa here in the States.
