Official Kalmah Tab Thread

dude it has to be one step down tunned, you are in the standard tunning in E, you have to drop it 1 tone to D then u will have your guitar DGCFAD instead of EADGBE ;)

Man, I play other Kalmah songs with my current tuning and they just sound the same or very similar as the original song, the only one I can't do is that one even if a play it how as the tab says same tempo and all that bunch of crap. :\

well it depends if u play it in normal tunning you still can but you won't get the lower notes, for example if you have to play my nation you will play:

D l-
A l-
F l-
C l-
G l-7-7-5-7-3--3-5---5-2
D l-----------------3---0

E l-
B l-
G l-
D l-
A l-5-5-3-5-1--1-3---3-0
E l-----------------1---?

my point is that u can transpose but u won't be able to play it exactly like them, at least not in tune

Drop D sir, which is easily tunable from ear using the 4th open D (duh) or pretty much any other octave

it could be like this

E l-
B l-
G l-
D l-
A l-5-5-3-5-1--1-3---3-0
D l-----------------3---0

the only 2 notes you cant play in standard are the Eb and the D on 6th Ab and G on 5th and so on, but as long as you don't have to use the first fret then your good and also if its on one string you could just play it a string lower just 5 frets higher, and in standard with the low E 1 step down to D it would be 3 frets.

The only issues with playing standard tuning is it does sound weaker tone wise even if you are playing the same notes technically.

but like beyond the realm said you really can transpose pieces into many different tunings, even for the really super heavy metal i try to stay in standard or in half-step down just because of convienince reasons.

hope i helped

more kalmah covers to come???

yeah drop D is a choice and mmmm let me call it an easy way to play power chords but in my opinion i don't like it too much i prefer to get down the full way, besides i dont think kalmah plays in dropped d cuz in the videos i've seen they do play power chords the traditional way, but any way drop d is a choice, quick choice because for tuning you can simply strum the 6th and 5th strings and detune the 6th till they both sound like a power chord and try to confirm with the harmonic in the 7th fret in the 6th string and the harmonic in the 12 fret in the 5th string. and yeah in standard it sounds maybe not weaker but more bright and no so deep like tuning lower. have fun tunning ur guitar hahaha

yeah i couldnt agree more about drop D, its like for the emo kids mostly, unless a song really does need it, suck it up and use 2 fingers kids. =)

ok so iron_rider didn't post it i hope he doesn't mind i'll post it, i helped him with the second guitar and some sort of the bass,in the chorus there are 3 guitars, mute either the track 3 or the one without the name, they're just options, use the one u like or think sounds better, i'll try to work in the drums

Can you upload this again plz? it has expierd...

Thanks for the info people, I'll tune my second player to see how it goes. I'll try the tuning which best fits.
By the way, I fucking hate tuning and more if what I have to tune is my violin, may be less strings but more of a pain in the ass.

I was 99% sure that kalmah has the dropped tuning but as a singer not a guitarist I didnt want to confuse someone.. I still could be wrong ;)

and sandiegometalmario: Im really shocked that you havent heard that sth was wrong with the tuning.. and you played almost the entire song.. If I were you I would record it again ;) this time being sure about the right tuning ;)
errrr, tuning will be right. ill do it again this weekend and fix that shit! :kickass::kickass::kickass:

agreed :Smug:
how long have you been playing?

Not much, like half a year. At first I was learning very fast but now I don't have much time to practice because of school and new guitar. :D
I had to start going to violin class today but just didn't felt like it.

violin is damn haaard! most people say that its the most difficult music instrument to play and I agree!
I learnt to play violin for 3 and a half years between the age of 11-14 and now I started again after 6 years break.. My teacher is quite glad about the amount of things that I remember and the technique which seems to have improved a bit even though I hadnt practice at all. I just took my violin once in 3 months.. sometimes even 6.. played a song or two, pissed off and put it away for another few months :p

I dont practice much either.. Im so busy recently that when I have some free time I prefer to rest = lie down and do absolutely nth..

Well, it wasn't very hard for me, i just had to get used to it and in a few days I was already playing songs the teachers gave me and some self taught i got by ear. I feel the violin way easier to tab than guitar and to associate notes, the problem is it gets out of tune easier and you have to be careful with the left hand so the sound doesn't get distorted. Its kind of tiring at start but you get used to it.

violin shouldnt get out of tune that easily. what strings do you use? because its either the strings or the tuners. try grinding some rosin into the pegbox and make sure that the tuners are strongly fixed in the wholes.
what do you mean by distorted? I think your problem might be the tension of the strings.. lower tension of the strings makes it much easier for the player to get a good sound and such strings dont get easily out of tune.

coming back to learning ;) I think that the simplicity with which you started playing violin might come from the fact that you already had some contact with music and musical instruments ;) when I started playing I had no idea about notes nor had I played any instrument before.. Its much easier for me now, when I sing and play violin, to play piano or guitar.

My strings are very good ones but the violin its a cheap fabric violin I got, you can only buy bad violins here but are good for learning. The tension thing was recently fixed by my teacher. the bridge was damn high so he made it a bit lower. He said like that it would be easier but I just find it the same, maybe because I'm used to play with high tension in strings (long painful story). Maybe I'll buy a better violin when I have some money because I've just spend it all in the guitar. Thanks for the advice btw. Its good to have some info from skilled players. I still need to coordinate tempo, I start playing normal finish playing too fast. :\

Ive never wondered about that.. I just play for fun and dont care - as for now ^^ Id like to use violin in my band one day.. we'll see :p what about practicing with metronome? that clicks piss you off like nothing else but also like nothing else help with coordination ;)
Ive got very old violin found once on a church's attic and no one knows how old it is nor who made it - it had no note inside. It has nice and warm tone that my teacher adores but specialists say its nothing special.
I changed strings last month from very cheap ones to Thomastic Infeld Red set to enrich the warmth of my instrument and now it sounds completely different - I was stunned! And the low tension of the strings makes it so much easier to play! I just fell in love with my instument again ^^
If you ever come to think about changing your strings I fully recommend Thomastik ;)

Thanks for the advice Maybe I'll try some of those later and a metronome too but yeah, its damn annoying. Some time ago a friend asked me if I wanted to join to some avant garde project he had but I didn't felt like it. I still have to practice a little more and finish the Fear Of the Dark song im learning.

yeah if you got a metronome then you could use it for your guitar shit too, use tis with scales arpeggios and such and it will help tremendously, did for me.

as far as it 'sounds' correct then its not bad ^^ though my band guitarists pity that they havent learnt about them earlier. when you start playing with other people then you sometimes need to transpose a piece you thought of into another scale so that the vocalist could sing sth to it. another example: you think of a nice riff but someone says its too "cheerful" and that it would sound better "doom-like". and you try chaning the major scale you probably have the riff in into minor and its 'sad' then. it doesnt always work but in most cases.. these are from my own experience ;) I suppose there are more pros for learning scales ;) mabye DeathsRebuke could name some?
