Official "Who Should Replace Volbeat?" Thread

Why do I feel that the fest is turning back into one that I want to go to this year.....I am sorry that Volbeat bailed but they do absolutely nothing for me. There is a band though that would make a great addition to the fest in my opinion and has been mentioned: Dark Water

Bear

Wow, tons of GREAT ideas floating around in here and the good thing is, at least for me, I've not seen a good majority of these bands live before: Brainstorm, Nocturnal Rites, Falconer, Machine Men, Orphaned Land, etc....

However I do like the notion that, because Volbeat were kind of unique among all the other bands initially slated to perform at PPIX, the replacement band should still have some uniqueness of flavor to them as well. That still leaves many options from which to choose I would think.

For me, one band I would absolutely love to see (although who knows if their tour schedule would permit it): Korpiklaani. Now they would be FUN!

+1. I really hope Glenn manages to find someone with the "fun" aspect of Volbeat. That's a tall order though, and I'm sure he's tired.

Hs's probably already working on next PP's line-up, right? To prepare another video announcement? I imagine trying to replace a band of Volbeat's caliber on such short notice on top of all that is hell.

I mentioned Hammers of Misfortune in another thread. I think they'd do nicely if you're looking for something along the lines of Volbeat.

How about a Payne's Gray reunion and they perform Kaddath Decoded in its entirety?

Or, within the realm of possibility:

Jag Panzer
Agent Steel
Blaze
Malpractice

Yeah, I was there ... thought Nocturnal Rites was incredible.

As for the Favre jersey ... I wore it at prog power last year .. I think it was the first fest I'd worn it to. A lot of people didn't get it ... it was a replica of Favre's college jersey from Southern Miss. With it being black I thought it was kind of metal in a way.

Maybe it was someone else then.

ZOMG! BIG LETTERZ!!!11! LOZ!!1!!23!!!!6!11

What? You don't want the world's best techno/rock/rap/metal/cross-dressing band? :P

Though I do admit they (and a few others on my list) were suggested in jest. It was meant to highlight the impossibility of finding a band as unique as Volbeat.

Sonata Artica and Nightwish will be in the Atlanta area at that time, more specifically they will be on their way to Jaxx...

There are no Female-fronted bands this year...

So, economics, time travel, and logistics aside, why not:
To-Mera
Delain
Stream of Passion
Echoes of Eternity
Operatika
Lacuna Coil (that would be controversial, eh?)

I would prefer the first three...the last 3 would be a much tougher sell.

How about...Just to surprise...Tad Morose? Albums fantastic, did real well when they played last, and kinda broke up after that...reunion would be cool.
Wuthering Heights also kicked ass IMO. They deserve a return.

Here's my prediction:

Draconian

They've been getting a good buzz of late with their latest album, and aren't a huge, huge stretch for Prog Power. They are Beauty & The Beast style, but with more doom oriented music than prog/power. It's about 50/50 female/growl style. The new disc "Turning Season Within" is very good .. I'm guessing a lot of people here would dig them, although they still seem to fall under the radar quite a bit.

The female lead singer is quite solid, and the growler is awesome. He's the most understandable growler I've heard. He's similar in sound to what you'd find with say Dan Swano on Moontower. They remind me a bit of Swallow The Sun, but might be a tad bit swifter paced, and also have the female vox.

Well anyway .. even if they aren't the replacement band they still are worth checking out. I think a lot of you folks would dig them.

Okay, my Draconian pick still fits, but if I was to add a 2nd band to the prediction list it would be Fair To Midland. They are kind of progressive, but to me they still seem to be an oddball type. I saw them at Wacken .. very entertaining.
