oh i just remembered MLK day.

i am going to some MLK remembrance thingie on fulton street in the morning but i think i'll spend the afternoon on the couch with fred (since he's half black)

Also, I think it's technically Lee-Jackson-King day here. Or at least it used to be. They might have changed it so that the Friday preceeding the Monday that is MLK day is Lee-Jackson day, which would make that today. I'm not really sure.

Holidays confuse me.

Yeah, it is pretty fucked up. I found out what the deal is. They separated Lee-Jackson-King day into two separate days in 2000, which I think is much more fucked than having them as one holiday, because it basically says "ok, you have the white holiday and the black holiday - enjoy!"

What the fuck do Jackson and Lee have to do with King at all? like, why would the holidays be bound together for any reason other than to please racists who have to sugarcoat the bitter pill of a black guy being commemorated?

unless it's Jesse Jackson or something. doubtful.

a lot of offices will have people work on veteran's day and then give them an extra day off around thanksgiving for it.
i'm not down with that.

The reason for the two is that it was just Lee-Jackson day for decades, and then in the 80's when MLK day came along, they added it onto the holiday that already existed on the third Monday in January. And then after 15 years or so, they decided to make that day only MLK day and make Lee-Jackson day three days earlier.
