Ok this is serious, is Sunn O)))'s Black One worth listening?

By the way... we saw Sunn/Nachtmystium on Tuesday. Let's just say...

The place was about the size of my room at home. After Nachtmystium blew up a Marshall half-stack and couldn't do any vocals, Sunn came on and the place filled up with faux-smoke so you couldn't really see three feet in front of you. Two guys come through the audience in druidic robes, and basically there's the background drone for five minutes. All of a sudden, one of the guys leaves, and comes back with another guy. The new guy goes on stage, pulls his hood down and BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM fucking loud as fuck opening riff. The guy screams in synch with the first "note" and at this point, it is very obviously Malefic.

That sounds really cool.

About what Nad said, yes of course a sunnnnnnnnnnnnnnooo concert is totally different, so what? Attending a "different" concert just because its "different" what kind of logic is this? Its incredible how many people fell into that "Trap" and attended the sunnn000 concert here last year, just to leave the gig after 20 minutes, widely laughing about what is considered "unique" and "special" today.

it doesn't HAVE to be something different for me to enjoy it, but i like experiencing new things so it's enough to perk my ears up and give it a shot.

I share NAAAAAD's philosophy: I am fuckin sick and tired of the same old shit. Nowadays I would prefer hearing someone doing something unique and poorly over someone who does something tried-and-true very well. Sunn0))) works.

I listen to Sunn 0))) because when I put them on, I like the sound that comes out of the speakers. Simple as that. Probably helps that I'm a big fan of Earth's Pentastar and Boris' catalogue in general. If you wonder why people tell you to shut up, IotS (which I didn't), mull this one around the old noggin a little:

They're pissed because you're trying to tell other people why they should or shouldn't like what they hear from certain types of music. It doesn't work like that. Your tastes and opinions mean absolutely fuck all in the grand scheme of music, and as such the scope of music out there will always be much broader than that which you care to listen to or praise. You don't have to like Sunn 0))), but telling us that someday we'll snap out of the trance that has us listening to "bad music" is just plain stupid.

Black 1 is an amazing album, it took a bit to get into it because I'm more into the 00Void era Sunn O))), but its killer. Pretentious? Hardly. I use this music for relaxation and introspection. Max and Dick said it best, use drugs. . The brain melting as opposed to entertainment comment is pretty dead on. However I myself am entertained by these guys.
