Ok this is serious, is Sunn O)))'s Black One worth listening?

oh no, they don't really have structured songs. most of it is one riff repeated ad naseum. subtle differences pop in here and there from various other instruments, but you can't go into a Sunn O))) album expecting anything close to a catchy chorus.

the best possible way i can describe them is take doom metal to it's most extreme form: one giant riff.

Ok, that's about 96.8% of what I thought.

So let's go back to the original question posed by yours truly: what's the fuggin' point?

BECAUSE I ENJOY LISTENING TO THEM!!!

what is the point of ANY band you like? come on man, this is easy. :tickled:

It's not AS easy as you're making it out to be.

I know why I like a band; it's because the songs fucking rock, or interweave interesting melodies, etc. Thus, my difficulties in understanding how/why anyone would choose to listen to SUNN0))) (and claim to "enjoy" them). I think it's just about being different, but hey, I've been wrong. Once or twice. ;)

It is sound created for numbing of the mind. I take it you don't like ambient either, right?

I like ambiant very much, Raison d'Être's "The Empty Hollow Unfolds" is one of my favorite record.

Well this is the logical extension of doom and ambient: drone. Nothing more, nothing less.

And how hard would it be to create an ambient track? Or noise, like MERZBOW? Since when does difficulty in songwriting come into it? It's about the feeling you get from the music, not analyzing time signatures or production.

Eh, I produce a lot of ambient myself and I can tell you that production is key, songwriting also plays a huge part. Make something thats equal to anything Merzbow or Sunn O))) then you can talk about production not being important.
