true....!!!.....its jsut that my first memories of opeth are from Morningrise..........and its always had a medieval vibe to it for some reason adn i dig that alot........o well.........a man can always dream...!!!...so yeah....u never know...fingers crossed..!!!...........PEAC EOUT

Opeth doesn't strike me as a band to move backwards. They'll always sound "Opeth", but as long as they put out music I imagine they will just layer another new twist to their already incredible style.

I miss the Morningrise sound too, but then I realize that Morningrise is Morningrise, and to repeat that style might take away from how good Morningrise actually is. Now I just take Morningrise for Morningrise, and it makes that album the classic that it is.

expect more to come in the direction GR was heading, no doubt about it i think.

I dont think they will ever do an album close that sound again ,but I think they will put a few Orchid/Mornigrise style riffs in their material. (End of Harlequin Forrest)

Its been made pretty clear that the band (and by band I mean mikael) were tired of the twin guitar harmony sound that was prevalent through the 90's. I'd be shocked if they went back, but if they did it would be cool to hear with axenrot and bass player.

edit: and per

I like GR, but am not crazy about the addition of Per to their sound. I'm hoping they focus more on the guitar riffs & less on showcasing all 5 instruments. IMO Per should be used to accent songs & provide gentle harmonies on the slower sections/tracks.
BTM is a pretty sick song (Great Vocals, Great solo's), but the keyboard at the beginning is really annoying to me. The keys subtract from some of the heaviness they possess. I'd prefer they be used in a similar manner as they were in BWP & Deliverance.
IMO, TGC is his best contribution on GR, but the repetitive guitar work prevents that song from being one of their best.
Maybe the band will have more of a comfort level heading into the studio on the next album & will produce one of their finest. I'm hoping the addition of Axe, Pers' 2nd time around & more familiarity with their label will help. I'm also hoping SW has time to produce their next release.
Back to the original post, I doubt we'll ever hear another Orchid

You remember what Peter said about the band consistently doing what people don't expect them to do...

Well, I won't say anymore.

Per adds a great amount of texture To Opeth and the keys in the older songs are very very well done. To quote the 'Showcase the 5 instruments' i dont think this is the case, i dont think Mike wrote the guitars so the keyboards could be noticed more, because to be honest its not that noticeable through the majority of the songs, except for a few 'standout' parts. Oh and if i want to listen to something heavy i wouldnt listen to Opeth.

I agree with affinityband. I listen to Opeth for Opeth, not because I want to hear something "heavy". If I want to hear Akerfeldt scream on something heavy I listen to Bloodbath. If I want to hear great musicianship and songwriting, I listen to Opeth.
