Holy shit "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven" and "Yanqui UXO" have grabbed me by my tiny fucking balls. :kickass: I should have checked out these fuckers long ago.

my assumption about post rock got blown out of the water. why was i thinking post-hardcore shit like sparta? man, what a faggot i am.

post-rock is an incredibly dumb name. it's like "what happens when you get beyond rock? you no longer rock, it's something entirely different." lame.

and then there are groups like Mono, who rock pretty hard in a fully rockin sense and aren't "beyond" rock in any sort of way, yet are still considered post-rock.

i'm gonna call my next band Post Sheetz and use a Nestle logo. this is gonna rule. oh and every guest musician will wear KKK sheets.

and you'll wear a sheet with post-it notes on it?

"Lift Your Skinny Dicks" is almost a 10/10 album. I say almost because I can't award a 10/10 with less than 25 listens. I'm not as crazy about "Yanqui UXO" or ASMZ though. Nevertheless, the first one and the ep are pretty fucking stellar.

Man, I don't think I've ever smiled as much as when I first heard "Storm."

oh what the crap, apparantly they CHANGED THEIR NAME from GYBE! to GY!BE .. ?!

also, on the post-rock nomenclature, and I know this can't be applied to all post-rock bands, but I figured it was an abbreviating of "postmodern rock," which I think GY!BE!! can fit in that niche quite well. As for others grouped as post-rock, I would argue if they actually cater to postmodernism or not, but more or less would have branched off from a sound pulled from an initial one of these bands formed from postmodernism

Regardless, I think I'll make it a point to use postmodern rock instead of its problematic abbreviation (though I disagree with Otter about Mono not fitting into the aesthetic)...and I don't know why so many consider Yanqui a disappointment, I like it every bit as much as the other two, if less original and adventurous.
