Is it a bad thing that I only know them from the Krieg cover of Venus In Furs?
yes. but listening to them is the path to forgiveness. :loco:

'gugs yeah, total Joy Division influence. VU as well. and all kinds of other weird art-rock.

Joy Division make me feel suicidal, haha. they are a band i appreciate more than i like, but i'm not going to pretend that 20 listens to Unknown Pleasures is anything but the tip of the iceberg.

the Velvet Underground is the fountain from which many, many things flow. the famous line is that VU sold very few albums in their lifetime, but everyone who bought one started a band. if I had a daughter, I would name her Nico.

This is true, this is true. And the dude that 'Almost Famous' was based on, the guy who wrote for Creem magazine for all those years, was the biggest VU fan of all time, until he met Lou Reed and decided he was a jerk, lol.

gugs: I know Love will Tear Us Apart is a Joy Division song, but I have never heard them. knowingly.

lol, that's the song everyone knows. They're THE epitome of post-punk/pre-new wave music. Morbidly depressing, yet musically uplifting. An interesting mix, to be sure. Though even I'll admit they're dicksucked all the more these days simply because Ian Curtis (lead singer) offed himself at a very young age and prematurely ended JD's career only 2 albums in (1981 or so). Still, definitely worth checking out. The remaining living members went on to form New Order, btw.

i've found that most of my musical heroes are complete assholes that i wouldn't even want to meet in person, and i'm okay with that. i mean, Glenn Danzig? christ.

ABORT MISSION
hahaha

while i haven't dissected a lot of their lyrics, i always assumed no. or if they have christian beliefs, they sure question and critique them a lot.

PJ: Do you hold any religious beliefs?

MG: Not of any organized fashion. I'm pretty much a naïf, awestruck by the strangeness of being alive. I have respect for people who are religious in a pure way.

PJ: Your not rebelling against the idea of God itself?

MG: I think that it's kind of ridiculous to anthropomorphize God. It's a pure aspiration to believe in an underlying spiritual force of life.

PJ: It still doesn't make people necessarily better, more decent to others.

MG: There are people who have an organized view of religion that are good. My uncle is a Mormon and a really decent human being. Probably a lot of it has to do with his religious beliefs.

hahahahaha wow. while i've often thought about a band's religious beliefs, it's never really bothered me this way or that.

Is this a conversation between me & Papa Josh? :tickled:

(as if I'd ever use the word 'anthropomorphize')
